Description

Invert PDF colors and view comfortably in the dark without tiring your eyes.

Negative has three working modes:

- Normal - no inverted colors. In this way, you can open documents to yourself, for example, in Preview on Mac
- Inverted - here the colors are just reversed, everything is in reverse
- Inverted with Sepia - the picture in the negative with the sepia added, which in my opinion further improves the comfort of reading in the dark.

Each of the modes is activated one after the other, like on a carousel, after next clicking on the button with the eye on the toolbar.

On the toolbar you will also find a field for entering the page number to which you want to jump.

What’s New

Version 2.0

Negative was completely rewritten from scratch and now fully supports both Intel and M1 Macs. Negative 2.0 requires macOS Monterey.

What's new:
- completely new UI with all the important elements on toolbar (search field, page counter, change color mode button)
- settings: you can choose whether the PDF color mode should be in sync with current color mode of the system or not.
- tips: if you find Negative worth small gratification, now you can tip the creator with one of thee available tip options (using In-App-Purchase).

Fixes:
- fix for a bug that caused crashed on M1 Macs for some users.

Thank you for the "missing feature."

The wide compatibility of PDFs made them the format for flexibility, but nowadays, in the sense that they're one of the only file types left which force you to read in "light mode," flexibility is rock bottom. The very least you want is an "invert" button, which not even Preview can do without quirky hassles.

That's what Negative is for. (And I think it's all it's for.) Welcome bonuses include a dark sepia tint and exact-phrase searches with quotes.

A touch rough around a couple of edges, but it's a developer who took care of others and requires nothing back, so tip from within the app if you're of a mind.

Easy on the Eyes, No Find Function

Great app, amazing to me that Preview doesn't have this built in default with Mojave's Dark Mode but what can you do? I wish there was a way to search PDFs in this app, because if you're looking for specific text you have to open Preview to search (no CMD F, no search nada out of Negative unfortunately). Maybe a feature for a future release? Still, great for night reading and Mojave Dark Mode!

Needs better fonts

My normal way of reading PDFs is by enabling “invert image” with hotkeys (CMD + Ctl + opt + 8). When I used this app instead, I noticed that the fonts are much more bulkier and pretty much an eyesore. It does not use the native PDF font which can be a bad thing because some PDFs may have a smudgy font for its age. Even with a good document, this app ruins the legibility because of its font package. If it included MSW or Adobe fonts, even system native ones, it would make the reading experience much better. Also, I notice that it makes the text more bold than the system invert image.

For now, I still recommend invert image over this app. It needs better fonts or another method of invert image.
