Description

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.

• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.

• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 40 people.

• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.

• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.

• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.

• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

What’s New

Version 7.8

• We added support for custom nicknames and notes for anyone you're chatting with on Signal, even if they aren't in your system contacts. Whether you're adding the missing letters in a lazy friend's profile name, or a reminder about where you met, notes and nicknames provide a convenient and secure way to jot down additional details about your Signal Connections — and they're end-to-end encrypted and protected by your Signal PIN so they can be securely restored if you lose your phone too.

Reliable, easy and secure

There’s one thing though I don’t like much. The app isn’t present in system share menu. When I want share a photo or some other media, I have to open the app directly which in case of photos requires access to Photo Library which is unnecessary (some apps don’t require it). I believe the team that they don’t do anything malicious and there may be other security implications but I feel that less the app wants/needs to know the better (while still being comfortable to use).

Great apart from sharing photos

I like this app and its philosophy, its easy to use and works well. I just have one thing that mildly bothers me. I have not allowed access to all photos so I choose only those I wish to share on the app. However, the in-app button for selecting more photos to share is in the photo sharing menu at the very end of the list of photos I have already shared. As the amount of photos I have shared is growing, if I want to share a new photo I have to manually scroll the old photos sideways every time to find the button to select a new one :D If the team would consider putting that button on the start of that photo list, I would be very happy ! Thanks!

Very useful app with one important bug for me

I like many features of Signal, including voice messages and calls, sound quality in voice messages, its safety and many others. However, as a blind user who uses VoiceOver, I can see one bug which is quite disturbing for me: When I want to record a voice message without holding my finger on the screen, I swipe up and then VoiceOver gets stuck. It stops talking and to send the message, I have to turn it off and then to find the Send button on the screen. Many blind users have reported this issue, but hasn’t been solved yet, which is a pity.
