Description

John's Background Switcher puts beautiful full-screen photos and stunning montages on your desktop. Choose the photos from your own collection on your Mac or websites like Flickr, Unsplash, Pixabay, SmugMug, Vladstudio, Google Photos and many more besides. You'll never know what's coming next - maybe photos from a recent holiday, landscapes from far and distant lands, pictures of small kittens or equally small dogs. If you're having a tough day, just take a look at your desktop and John's Background Switcher will get you through it!

Main features include:
• Show single photos or a variety of randomly generated beautiful montages on your desktop
• Choose photos from folders on your Mac, from iPhoto (old skool) or the new Photos app
• Rich Flickr, Unsplash, SmugMug, Pixabay, Vladstudio, Pinterest, Pexels, Wallhaven, Dropbox, OneDrive (personal) and Google Photos integration
• Media RSS photo feeds (so you can use a great many more photo sites)
• Multiple monitor support (show the same background all monitors, different pictures on each monitor or only on one monitor)
• Switching intervals from every 10 seconds to 7 days
• A variety of post processing effects like grayscale, sepia and desaturation
• Lots of new features in the works for future versions (I have a list as long as your arm!)

Once set up JBS quietly runs in the background changing your desktop and stays out of your way. If you don't love it, tell me what you'd like it to do from the support link and I'll add it as soon as I can! And remember, I'm a real person called John so be nice. :)

What’s New

Version 4.1

This version contains a fix for a random crash a few people had (sorry about that, took a while to nail it) and a couple of other performance enhancements and tweaks.

• Speeded up photo downloading in general (especially when creating a photo montage)
• macOS Photos integration now gets photos asynchronously (which will also be faster)
• Added picture titles to Dropbox photos
• You can now only choose from your own SmugMug photos (as instructed by SmugMug HQ)
• Fixed a random crash when the internet connection goes down at exactly the wrong time
• Fixed a crash when attempting to add a folder of photos

If you have any problems or suggestions then don't hesitate to contact me at support@johnsadventures.com and I'll gladly help you out!

Great wallpaper manager for Mac systems

I've tried so many wallpaper apps for Macs but none of them catered to my needs i.e. multi-platform support and customizability. This app on the other hand offers exactly what I needed! Thanks a lot John!

Just one thing, on my M1 Pro 16-inch, the app seems to overwrite the notch-hider (the one I'm using is called TopNotch) every time the wallpaper refreshes in the background. The notch won't go away until I switch between desktops.

Developer Response ,

You are most welcome - glad you like JBS! :)

I've had a look at TopNotch and it seems to behave the same way if JBS switches as if you manually change the wallpaper from System Preferences - it only redraws the black line when you click the menu item. In fact JBS does the same as if you use System Preferences so if there's anything I could do to trigger TopNotch to refresh I certainly would. I'll drop them an email and see.

Love this application.

About all I missed when I finally managed to free myself from working on a Windows based computer was JBS - my default background creator for a number of years. The Mac version is great and well worth the cost, if you have a lot of photos (and these days who doesn’t) and you want to see them rather than have them hidden away in your iPhoto / Photos library then JBS is perfect. Easily create an ever changing background based on the photos and images you want to see.

Needs keyboard shortcuts

I had got used to using 'Change Desktop' for Years but now it stopped working after Big Sur.
The auto colour borders always the best feature and this has it too.
But I miss my keyboard shortcuts to change the picture. And a feature that shows the desktop picture only. Hiding everything else.
