A must-have travel accessory
This is the easiest, most convenient and most secure way of taking money with you when you’re travelling. The card holds multiple currency wallets and you can top-up and transfer between them. The website has full functionality for this, the app is (update) now able to do this too!
Using the card abroad is simple, as it’s contactless, chip and PIN, and standard swipe compatible. No fees for overseas ATMs, so getting actual cash is also easy. And, contrary to other reviews, if you need to access your cash once you’re home, you can convert it to home currency and withdraw at any ATM - though there is a fee to do so. £1.50 in the UK.
This is the quickest and cheapest way to cash out the card. For people who travel a lot, to multiple countries and like the idea of a secure, preloaded, fully featured card for their money needs, this is it. Plus 3 months free WiFi from Boingo every time you load the card. What’s not to like?

Getting your money back
Transferring money on to the card is quick and easy, however getting it back when you have some left over is difficult, slow and expensive! You cannot do it via the App or the website, you have to phone or go into a branch. It only takes an instant to put money on to the card but it takes ‘3-5 working days’ to get it back. It also costs £6.00.
I had no problems using the card in New Zealand.
Easy to double order
When we first got the card and app a couple of months ago I managed to order a large amount of USD twice as I perceived the apps had hung so started again.
This caused me to have to ask Travelex to exchange the over-ordered amount back to another currency which cost me on the exchange. I wrote this off thinking it must have been my fault.
I have just topped up again and see it is inherent within the app. After having put in all the details, it says it will take two minutes to process. The last thing it does is return to the screen which has a large COMPLETE ORDER button.
It looks as if you need to press this, and I now realise that this is what I did last time, causing it to go through the order loop twice.
I left it this time - even though there was nothing to tell me the order was still processing and NOT to touch anything - and eventually it processed.
This is clearly a rip off and built in to dupe the user into over ordering.
Add this to the fact that we were told at Heathrow when purchasing the card that we could get one each for myself and my wife (and this isn’t actually correct); and a horrendously different exchange rate from the airport kiosk to the app; and that I have just had to enter all my details again into the app when I have already done this - we will be clearing this account out at the end of this trip and looking for an alternative currency card.
