Editors’ Notes

When we’re feeling off-colour, the annoyance of scheduling appointments only makes us feel worse. This app puts a lifeline to a doctor right in our pocket so we can get health advice without leaving our couch. It even monitors our concerns to help us stay in tip-top shape. Sure beats sitting in the waiting room.

Best choice if GP

I’ve been using a different online NHS services but unfortunately, couldn’t add my under 16 child to the same account. It wasn’t a problem with Babylon GP, so I swapped without hesitation. Now I have my own account with the linked profile for a child. There are always available appointments - no fuss, no hanging on the phone at 8.30AM only to be let down, like in the case of most of the GO clinics. I can schedule the appointment at my convenience and choose the time that I find suitable. They have a good range of local clinics within London in their books, so getting a face to face follow up appointment isn’t a big hassle either. My only advice would be to ensure that you’ve made all the arrangements to have a backup up plan in case of the repeat prescriptions, as they’d be reset once you swap and you’d have to book a face to face health check with Babylon GP At Hand’s clinic to issue renewed prescriptions, as you will temporarily lose the access to the online pharmacy/NHS app’s orders.
Update: every appointment so far was very thorough and informative. I felt like I’m being listened and referrals were made without a fuss without any stone left unturned. Every medical professional has been very empathetic and friendly. Overall, the level of care meets the standards of privately funded healthcare services and has left me pleasantly surprised.

Excellent until it comes to collecting the prescription

I’ve used the Babylon GP service on several occasions and it really is excellent. Every video consultation has been on time and with a GP who really listens and understands. Unfortunately the service is let down by the difficulty of then getting the prescription through to my local chemist. Chemists close to me did not seem familiar with accessing the prescription sent to them, on several occasions it had not arrived. So whilst the appointment with the Doctor worked absolutely as it should, I then spent the rest of the day back and forward to the chemist, then trying to call Babylon helpline which is always very busy, calling the chemist and getting very frustrated. I will use Babylon again as I get it via my bupa policy and what a great thing it has been especially in lockdown. However please refine your prescription sending system as it’s incredibly frustrating and made me think I may as well have battled with my own GP.

Whilst the reply from you was welcome, it’s rather late to offer help receiving my prescription now as a week has passed. Improve this facility and it is a fantastic service. As it is it’s very frustrating.
