Spiral is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by nbkc bank, Member FDIC.

1- Spiral will charge your account $7 per month (up to 6 months) if you do not make a deposit or withdrawal for 90 days. Interest posting is not considered a deposit for purposes of this fee.

2- Your payment may be processed up to 2 days early. Timing depends on when your employer sends payment funds.

3- When Spiral combines the actual bonus cash earned with the interest earned on a savings account that maintains a daily balance of $10,000 during the year using the national average interest percentage rate of 0.06% paid on savings accounts (determined by FDIC as of September 20, 2021 based on a simple average of rates paid by all insured depository institutions and branches for which data are available). Visit https://www.fdic.gov/resources/bankers/national-rates/2021-09-20.html to learn more.

4- Spiral matches donations up to $150 per year when you make a minimum donation of $5 per year. If you set up a monthly direct deposit of payroll of at least $1,000 to your checking or savings account (or a recurring incoming transfer of at least $1,000 to your checking or savings account), Spiral will match your donations up to the annual limits in the Donation Matching Table by visiting www.spiral.us/disclosures depending on the amount of your monthly deposits. If at any time during the year you increase your direct deposit of payroll (or recurring incoming transfer) so that Spiral’s annual match would be higher, Spiral will match at the higher amount.

5- Balances held in Spiral accounts benefit from up to $5,000,000 of FDIC insurance per customer. This is possible because Spiral and nbkc bank arranged for your deposits to be spread across a network of FDIC insured banks, where no more than $250,000 of your funds in your Spiral account will be deposited at any single institution in the bank network. Balances in your accounts may be moved by nbkc bank to one or more network banks to increase the amount of FDIC insurance available to you. Once the funds arrive at the network banks, they are eligible for FDIC insurance per customer of up to $5,000,000 in aggregate. Please be aware that your amount of FDIC insurance may be lower if the combination of any balances you maintain at a network bank, plus any deposits from your Spiral account(s) held in the same network bank, exceed $250,000. Wonderful company and a fun app!

So glad there’s finally a company working on this, helping people donate to literally any charity they want, all from one place. I’ve donated to a couple small neighborhood community groups near me, and to a general one they suggested. The app makes it very simple. Love the confetti! Support people are very sweet. So far a very positive experience. Looking forward to new features and to getting some nice perks. Just set up direct deposit. Yay!

If I could leave Zero stars I would

Talk about a total nightmare for a “bank” and I use the term bank very loosely when referencing Spiral. I had a personal account and then we opened one for my mom and funded it from my external bank account. They waited until the transfer was completed and the debit card arrived (cancelled already mind you) to inform us that not only would they be closing her account because it goes against their Ts & Cs to use an external account to fund the opening of a new spiral account if it’s in someone else’s name regardless if they authorized it or not. Ok fine whatever. Well then they inform me by email (now bear in mind that our spiral accounts were NOT connected in any way) that they are canceling and closing my account as well! I don’t know who came up with the business model behind this atrocity posing to be a bank but after doing some research I wouldn’t trust them with 1 cent of my money ever again. It took me filing a dispute with my external bank to force them to send back the $200 they were trying to hold hostage. NEVER AGAIN! they should be shut down and I have contacted the BBB and made them well aware of the sketchy and unethical way they are conducting business.

Banking with a purpose

We all have a bank account because we have to, but other than stashing money or getting a direct deposit the service is purely and only link to us. Nothing beyond that, this banking up has exactly all the benefits of a regular bank with the only difference that you are actually contributing to your community. I love it!
