Description

Rhythm Journey is a story based, hardcore 2-buttons rhythm game.

1. Play real drum rhythms.
2. Listen to each character’s story through their song’s lyrics and vocals.
3. The controls are easy to learn, but hard to master.
4. Enjoy 160 stages and 32 tracks.

1. Play real drum rhythms.

Rhythm Journey is centered around each track’s drum beat. Specifically, the game play focuses on the drum’s kick and snare, which can be described as the ‘boom’ sound and the ‘pat’ sound. Rhythm Journey also contains a variety of genres, rhythms, beats, and techniques (pop, rock, funk, Bossa nova, swing, shuffle, 8-beat, 16-beat, 4/4 beat, 3/4 beat, syncopation, fill-in, etc.) that are used in real music, so you feel as if you’re actually playing the drums.

2. Listen to each character’s story through their song’s lyrics and vocals.

Rhythm Journey is a rhythm game with a story. Centered around your main adventure, where you are saving the world of sound by passing the rhythm paths, each song contains various tales about various emotions in an omnibus format. Listen to stories that are sometimes warm, sometimes sad, sometimes about life, and sometimes even philosophical through song lyrics and character vocals.

3. The controls are easy to learn, but hard to master.

Rhythm Journey is a game played with only two buttons, but it's high difficulty makes it so you have to almost play perfectly to get to the end of each song. In addition, you have to respond to various patterns, such as changing your speed and direction.

However, assist options such as the ability to automatically go through each track can help you make it through the game. As long as you don’t give up and stay determined, you will always be able to make progress until your hard work pays off and you finally beat the level.

4. Enjoy 160 stages and 32 tracks.

Rhythm Journey has 32 tracks (27 with lyrics and vocals, 5 instrumentals), with each track containing 5 stages for a total of 160 stages to play. You can also test your mastery of the game by speeding up each track.

Came for ADOFAI, stayed for the gameplay

As stated in the title I originally found this game through A Dance of Fire and Ice. After downloading it only took 1 track for me to fall in love. As soon as I finished track 2 I immediately bought the full game. Highly recommend for anyone else who wants a simple rhythm game on the go.

This is the indie rhythm game everyone should be playing

It doesn’t lean hard on its custom mechanics, if you’re familiar with rhythm games it’s easy to jump in and sight read. But it has a very individual style, and the graphics and music are incredibly polished. The “one try” mechanic makes every note very intentional and you have to nail it to win (unless you go for the shield which gives some assistance but doesn’t overall test your skill as much) The two button model works way better here than Taiko or Muse Dash in my opinion. ADOFAI and Rhythm Doctor are two of my favorites and I’m happy to include this among the greats.

MASSIVE difficulty spike

I’m more than halfway through the game, and despite a few hiccups stemming from touchscreen controls, I’ve largely enjoyed my time. But playing level 4 of track 14 has completely deflated my experience with the game. I’m no stranger to fast tapping in rhythm games. I’ve cleared B-X in A Dance of Fire and Ice, I’ve cleared Chopin in Rhythm Doctor’s prerelease demo, I play lots of Taiko and Project Diva. But the speed at which this game wants me to tap is simply ridiculous, and not at all built to or implied in other levels. I’m happy with my purchase (game+shield), but I recommend sticking to ADOFaI or Rhythm Doctor or many of the other options you have if you don’t want to tear your hair out trying to do the double taps with one thumb the game expects you to do.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for playing Rhythm Journey.

And I'm sorry for the frustration you may have felt.

How about using your index fingers instead of your thumbs?

(You should to put your phone down somewhere for this)

Then you will be able to tap faster.

If you search for 'Rhythm Journey Fear Grows' on YouTube, there is a play video using index fingers. Please refer to this.

I hope you clear it eventually.

Thank you.
