Car Simulator: Drive & Drift

In Asphalt 9, speed means victory – and there are plenty of ways to shave seconds off your time. Every track is packed with ramps, shortcuts and nitro boosts to exploit.

We asked the experts at Gameloft Barcelona to show us how it’s done on one of our favourite courses: “The Path of the Wind,” from Career mode’s Class D Novice season. Principal game designer Antoine Cabrol answered the call, notching a blazing-fast time of 01:25:487.

Cabrol barrels up hills and past windmills, straight to a first-place finish.

Your challenge is to beat that using the same car: a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, upgraded to your heart’s content. To help you reach the podium, Cabrol reveals four strategies he used in his record-setting run.

Fly early

Make sure you take the first ramp instead of charging past it on the left. The aerial route is definitely quicker here.

Embrace caution

Though he’d usually take the track’s second ramp, Cabrol zooms straight past it because – having just struck a rival car – he can’t hit the jump correctly. Sometimes, safer is better, especially when it’ll avoid a potential crash.

Maintain speed

Just before the bridge, where there’s a ramp on either side, Cabrol takes the left one. Why? Because he’s angled toward that ramp as he approaches, whereas he’d have to turn ever so slightly (and lose a little speed) to hit the ramp on the right. Every bit counts.

Know your nitro

When you want to stay at top speed, use yellow nitro (single tap), which lasts longest. For a bigger boost, use orange nitro (triple tap), as Cabrol does after whacking a guardrail near the end of his run.

And for maximum kick, use shockwave nitro (double tap when the bar is full) – perfect for rocketing you up the steep hill early in the course.
