Description
Tour one of the last remaining Beaux-Arts Colonial homes constructed during the oil boom years at the turn of the 20th century located in Beaumont, Texas.
The 12,800 square foot home comprises six living areas, seven bedrooms, and six full baths with a half bath located on the first floor. The home was originally built by W.P.H. McFaddin’s sister, Di Averill and her husband W.C. Averill in 1905 - 1906. The architect, Henry Conrad Mauer, chose the Beaux-Arts style as it gained popularity throughout the United States during the late nineteenth century. Architectural features include applied ornamentation, colossal-order porticos, and symmetry in both interior and exterior designs. The house is historically significant as it is the last mansion of its type and style built in southeast Texas after the 1901 Spindletop oil boom.
