Great app but....

Ok so as a person who has been using my iPad as a notebook for many years - and many MANY APPLICATIONS - here is what I have found.

There are free apps (hate them - hate ads and if something is worth using it is worth paying something for). I do get that some folks like maybe kids who don’t have an income and may not be able to get their folks to spring for it might “like” the ads option...

I have used pretty much EVERY note application on the AppStore and this one is really great - and I would totally buy it as is for $12; however, the subscription model has gotten out of hand in my opinion. Let me buy for $12, receive version upgrades but make add-ons just that add-ons. If you add Pantone color sets or vector line capabilities - maybe I don’t want that.... so why am I paying a monthly subscription.

Just saying - because of this monthly / annual subscription model I will stick with my Wacom notepad or Great. Let’s - both have served me well and bamboo paper was initially free and you pay for additional paper types and drawing tools... one thing everyone seems to miss out on is layer support. Also great notes has cut paste copy stretch squish rotate and move. These are hugely beneficial features and a one time fee.

The Moleskin app is fabulous but I think subscriptions might be the wrong way to get people to use it. Also keep in mind - if not enough people subscribe it will go away also....

Really Captures the Moleskine Experience for Me

I use this app for writing only - I filled up a bookshelf with pocket-sized moleskines 10 years ago but then just moved my idea process to the keyboard and didn’t see myself going back. In fact, when I got this app I did not expect to use it, but once I tried it out I absolutely loved it - it really looks and feels like my old notebooks minus the left-handed ink smudges (I would not be opposed to this feature). Love the side scrolling layout - I find that if I write a lot in the stock notes app, it just becomes this infinite scroll that I have a hard time getting a handle on when I return to it. Only things I’d offer for improvements are that every time I come back to the app, the tool palette shows itself and I have to re-hide, I can’t reliably make the tap feature on the pencil work (I am not great at this though) and there seems to be slightly more latency than in the Notes app. It would also be awesome to be able to access the app via a widget in control center (with the ability to choose a default notebook for that) and I don’t imagine this is possible, but if Apple’s API permits tapping the pencil on the lock screen to open Flow instead of notes, that would just be incredibly useful. Those are just minor suggestions though, I absolutely love this app.

Not like other note/sketch apps—and that’s good!

I use Procreate and GoodNotes for when I need to get really in depth with my notes or drawing. I’ve been craving an app that has a beautiful, intuitive interface and is simple enough for me to quickly open and use it. Flow is inviting for someone somewhat unartistic as me to use, but I can also see its implications for more detailed sketching. I consider that this app is freshly made and so many features are on the way, and the team of developers is attentive to community suggestions although it is a small team. You can tell a good app by its developer response, so I have a lot of hope for the future of this one. I’m going to use the app more as it evolves, but I’m very pleased now. As to anyone who claims the app is too expensive—$12 once a year is not too much to pay if you pay about that much for a notebook you use in your hands from a bookstore. This app is a well executed attempt to emulate that personal experience with a paper notebook. That’s not easy, but it’s one of the reasons I purchased my iPad Pro with pencil. And if you’re a user that has the same intent as me, who’s already spent $900 or so on an iPad and pencil for that experience, another $12 every year is well worth it for the value returned. Thank you!
