Description
Introducing fishing tournaments through MyCatch, adding a new level of excitement for anglers while still contributing to fisheries research and conservation.
In 2020, tournaments everywhere were cancelled leaving many competitive anglers with limited options. So we started testing catch-photo-release tournaments on MyCatch to see what our anglers’ thought, and the verdict is in – they love them! So we are moving full speed ahead with app based tournaments as part of the MyCatch experience.
MyCatch was first released in 2018 as a way for anglers to track their catches and at the same time help fisheries biologists by providing important catch data. From a Citizen Science perspective, these new app based tournaments raise the bar again, providing high resolution fisheries data so researchers can improve their understanding of this important resource.
And from a conservation standpoint, this is also a big step forward as fish can be measured and then released back into the water in less than a minute, replacing the need for a livewell. Once the photo has been taken, it is automatically sent to the MyCatch server where it is reviewed for accurate length and the correct species, and then pushed to a live leaderboard where anglers can see where they rank in near real time.
“Our promise to anglers is that Secret Spots Stay Secret,” says Sean Simmons, Founder and President and Angler’s Atlas and MyCatch. “Every research team we work with must sign a data sharing agreement that sets the terms of use for the data, and data is anonymized before it is provided to the researcher. The goal is to protect the privacy of our anglers while providing fisheries biologists with critical data to better understand the state of our fisheries.”
For anglers, the app also provides useful statistics to keep track of your catches, such as number of fish caught, catch rate, species and specific details around each catch.
My Catch is produced by Angler’s Atlas, an online platform that has catalogued hundreds of thousands of waterbodies, and helps anglers explore lakes, rivers and oceans with detailed maps, tips and local fishing information.

Ratings and Reviews
There is very good potential
There is so much content within the app I gives u all the statistics you’ll want however one thing that I think is important to add is the ability to add custom fish spices as I am not a freshwater fisherman and it doesn’t have many of the fish I catch so I can’t log them a feature where I can add a type of fish and insert a photo would make logging fish much better
