Ratings and Reviews
Good for viewing notes made on iPad
Good for reviewing notes created on another device, not very useful for creating or editing any graphic based notes (though simply adding text is fine). No issues with everything has worked as intened (sans iCloud storage) Interface is clean easy to use. Improvements could be made in iCloud storage by adding some options. Sync works ok but if files get misaligned from one device to another getting them back in order is not a fun task. Some ways to improve this would chose versions or pull from iCloud would improve this.
Very, very beta. Not a full-fledged Mac app.
Let me put it this way. If you want to undo something, pressing Command-Z (the universal "Undo" command since before Mac OS even added color graphics) won't work. Neither will the "Undo" command in the "Edit" menu -- it's grayed out. The only way to undo is to press the tiny "Undo" button in the window because, you guessed it, this is just a straight check-a-box port of the iPad app to the Mac with seemingly next to nothing done to make it a more proper Mac app.
You know what menu command DOES work? "Show colors," which pops up a color palette window that ... mostly does not do anything except change text color, because changing the colors of the brushes in Noteshelf is handled the same way (holding the mouse button down on a color until the in-app color palette, a completely different color palette, shows up) as it is in iOS. Makes sense there, makes none here. Why can't I tear off the brushes palettes? Why can't I right-click to edit a brush's color? Is this all Catalyst apps can do? I sure hope not, because this is, while sort of functional, also sort of embarrassing.
I don't necessarily regret the purchase, because I just wanted an easy means to view my notebooks in a Mac window while I work. This does that, however clunkily (VERY clunkily). For any needs more complicated than that, this simply isn't ready and truly not worth your money. I hope it gets there, but these early Catalyst apps are really, alarmingly incomplete.
LOVE this app!!
I have used every note taking app for iPad, iPhone and Mac OS that I'm aware of. I've bounced back and forth between a few of them just to get a sense of which ones have the most intuitive and useful interfaces and which ones simply work the best.
This one is it. I love this app.
It does just about everything I need a note taking app to do, and then some. I think the interface is the most appealing of all of them. (Certainly better than noteability) and I prefer it over goodnotes. The fact that you can send elements forward and backwards it's very useful.
Apples own Notes is great for certain circumstances but its graphic elements capabilities pale by comparison to NoteShelf.
The only two things I wish NoteShelf could do that it doesn't is offer transparency of elements and to be able to resize images without being locked into their current proportions.
Other than that, NoteShelf is completely awesome. And with its ability to run on all of my Mac devices and sync perfectly between them is a huge plus.
I highly recommend this app. It is best in class.
