*Readerly is currently invite-only, but we’re excited to bring more readers into the platform in the near future. If you don’t have a code, we encourage you to download the app and join our waiting list!

Readerly is an independent, reader-supported book discovery platform. We’re making book discovery better for readers and fairer for authors by challenging the ever-growing influence Amazon has over our reading choices.

Here are a few things that make us different:

Whenever you take an action on a book—Save, Hide, or mark Done—you’ll never see that book in your feed again. You can always find it in the corresponding tabs, but removing it allows us to make room for titles you may never have heard of or missed reading the first time around.

We’re replacing the traditional reader review with Gists. Gists are essentially reviews broken up into fun, easy-to-create slides beginning with a quick shoutline for your favorite books (just a sentence or two). You can add tags, character bios, favorite quotes, and similar books. You can also get creative with the “Read This…” slide, finishing the sentence however you like: “...if you’re in the mood for something light...on your commute...with a glass of pinot noir…” You get the idea. We’ll only fill your feed with Gists from like-minded readers and people you follow so you can discover more books you’ll enjoy.

It’s 2021, and the world is still using a 5-star rating average to grade highly subjective work. Too many excellent books go undiscovered because they weren’t written for the majority and received below the dreaded 3.5 star average. Rather than give a book the same rating for everyone, we show you the percentage of readers similar to you who recommended the book.

No two readers are alike, and we tailor the entire site to your unique tastes. In addition to showing you personalized ratings and Gists, we tailor every feed, including Top, New, and For You. Behind the scenes, we match you with like-minded readers to ensure you get the most relevant recommendations.

Readerly is privately funded, completely ad-free, and we never take money from retailers or publishers to promote certain titles. We are free to use, but offer a subscription to readers who want to support our mission so we can keep their interests at the heart of the platform.

What’s New

Version 1.0.30

This release fixes 3 issues:

- Creating Gists from the "Write a Gist for this Book" button on book pages wouldn't mark the book as read, or give the opportunity to rate it
- The "Manage Subscription" option was showing for all users, not just those with a subscription
- The scan button didn't work when adding a book to a saved list

Love it!

I am so into this app so far. It’s nice to be able to have quick summaries and i like all the things you can add to a gist.

I hope someday we can see all the books tagged a certain way. I also hope we can look at books similar to. If I was able to search for a book and then see all the books other people have compared it to that would be such an incredible recommendation tool!

Good app but has a problem.

So readerly is really cool. I like the short but sweet approach that the “gists” encourage but I feel like a big part of the app is locked behind a paywall. That’s generally fine in a lot of apps but I can’t help but feel that in readerly, some of the best features that could really make the app take off... simply are locked behind a subscription. Other than that, I wish you could have a chat option so you could discuss books with your fellow readers. That could turn readerly into not just a review and recommendation centered app... but turn it into a nice social app as well.

Excellent but have a few ideas!

Love the app so far, especially with the latest improvements!

A few things I wouldn’t mind: 1.) the ability to organize the slides in a specific order; 2.) can we get a books read counter?
