This is different from anything I’ve used before

The idea of generating video using another video is very different from any other app I've used before. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about what AI could do in video, especially after seeing some experiments online. But this just feels different. I know is early, so looking forward for all the new updates.

USELESS APP

First, it takes me forever just to set up the app and go through an endless registration process where I am asked millions of questions, and three of my emails being denied because of not being accepted! Ultimately I had to create a new Gmail account just to register for this app. Next I am giving just 2 seconds available of any video! Next while the video is rendering and downloading, I need to listen to a perpetual endless audio loop on the two seconds of the video selected! Next after an ENDLESS waiting period just for this 2 second render to be finished, the final video that I just had to listen to it's audio loop forever, is downloaded to my gallery without any sound! To top it off, at then end of the process m, I am presented with a red warning screen like I'm gonna get arrested or something informing me that the video violates the app's policies in my account will be suspended! This is just a two second video of me looking at the camera and talking!!!!!!! What a freaking joke, instant uninstall!

We appreciate the feedback. Requiring users to sign up with an email helps us avoid bots and malicious use of our product. We're continuing to improve the product, but you should have been able to generate between 4 and 15 seconds of video per clip depending on your user plan. Can you please email support@runwayml.com with "iOS Support" as the subject line? We'd love to look into this issue for you.

Not worth the hype

There are many ways to do text to video, or image to video, or video to video these days. All suffer from some coherency issues, but all offer their own strengths and weaknesses. Runway allows you to generate 4 second videos, and restricts the content way too heavily. I tried to make a cute video of my niece seeing her new cat for the first time, and I was restricted. I recommend open source apps like Deforum if you have the time to play with them. They are more fun, allow you to create longer more customizable videos, and don’t police the content at all. They are also rapidly updated and improved due to the team of developers on the open source project. Runway has some cool demos, but I don’t recommend it at all right now.
