My appreciation for KUSC
I love Jennifer Miller, she is so fun to listen to. It is almost like she is talking in my living room, she is so informal but very knowledgable. I always look forward to the Sunday night opera show, and her weekend overnight show. I would love to hear her even more. AND I have been so enlightened by Jim Svejda over the many years I have listened to him; I have been introduced on the record shelf to so many little known works I had never heard of: In the Tatras and the Slovak Suite by Vietaslav Novak; the music of Ernest Farrar and E.F.Morean; The Christ Elf by Pfitzner; and wonderful new recordings of standard pieces, two examples: The Adam Fischer performance of Mahler’s 4th; and Pletnev’s complete Swan Lake. And finally, all of the many different recordings of my favorite Symphony, Tchaikovsky’s Fourth-one of which I am listening to right now. And finally, it’s fun that I happen to be an oboe player and also have an intense interest in Czech composers, which are featured often. I very much enjoy Rich Caparella and Alan Chapman as well. Overall, the programming on KUSC is everything I could ask for. -Larry Oppenheim, San Francisco.
Lifetime of beautiful music.
Beginning with KFAC (AM) on our old Montgomery Ward “Airline” radio, and continuing with my iPhone X and “Bluetooth Bose” head phones set to KUSC, I have spent most of eighty-two years enjoying excellent classical music, including the Saturday Met Opera. There were extended periods of time when I couldn’t receive the signal, including my Submarine Service. But now with stage 4 cancer, scoliosis, severe arthritis, a large abdominal aortic aneurysm, and a string of heart attacks (after quintuple bypass),... you could say “physically, I’m a mess”. However, God has richly blessed us.
My main activities include studying my Bible, praying for a long list of folks including my wife, children (4 families), grandkids (20, plus spouses), and great grandkids (4) ... watercolor painting ... and extremely important, listening to KUSC for my need of “intelligent” music.
Your labeling of the music and commentary on the composers is a great thing ,,, keep it up!
One request on your website ... Please add many more pictures and change the “mix”, often. Some of us native Californians (I’m fourth generation) could use the boost.
Thank you, much.

Keeps me grounded
First thing I do when I get to the office is click into KUSC - low in the background; it evens out the stressful moments of the day. When I get home at night, if I am cooking, I turn it on while I pour my glass of wine. Somehow I concentrate better. I love listening to the different programs — and learn something new about classical music every day. I especially enjoy Sunday evening — From the Top, which celebrates the amazing talents of young people, and then the 7 p.m. concert. Its so fun to sometimes hear again a symphony I’ve heard a few weeks prior at the Hollywood Bowl or Disney Concert Hall. KUSC has enriched my quality of life in so many ways!
