Cross over into the world of "Black Mirror" and experience "Thronglets," the retro virtual pet simulation at the center of the Season 7 episode "Plaything." These pixel art critters won't just take over your phone; they could take over your life.
"Thronglets" was originally developed in the 1990s as experimental software by legendary Tuckersoft programmer Colin Ritman ("Metl Hedd," "Nohzdyve," "Bandersnatch"). This isn't a game; it's a life-form whose biology is entirely digital. No emulator required.
MORE THAN A PET SIMULATION
Hatch and evolve hundreds of cute creatures: Thronglets! Feed, bathe and entertain them to watch them multiply. One becomes two, two becomes four, and so on. Soon there will be so many you'll call them a Throng.
VIRTUAL EVOLUTION
As Thronglets evolve, so does the simulation, unlocking new tools, abilities, items and buildings — and much, much more. You may be surprised by your Thronglets! Evolve Thronglets at your own risk.
TEST YOUR PERSONALITY
Thronglets are curious and love to learn. Your actions and choices within this virtual world teach the Throng about you — and all of humankind. Once you've completed the experiment, share your personality test results to compare with friends on social media.

A fun idea, but..
It made me really sad feeling out of control within just a few short minutes. I wanted to care for them and keep them all healthy, but it got out of hand when they all rapidly multiplied and started dying because I couldn’t keep up.
I suffer from depression, and it made me happy to keep them healthy and teach them about love! When they started dying it made me reeeeally sad, and I had to delete the app because I couldn’t handle how fast they multiplied 😩😭🥺 super triggering…maybe we could make a nice version for people who don’t want any deaths?
That was really sad to have a game get you feeling connected to something small and cute and helpless only to force you to fail to care for it ☠️
Impactfully Inspiring
Just wow. Whats crazy is this was my favorite episode of the season because the idea in the episode was thought provoking. The moment I realized there was a game, I downloaded. The moment I started. I couldn’t stop. It first felt like a pet simulator. But than I started getting criticism from the Thronglet of my actions. Even when I cared more about them, the questions they were asked and the evolution and direction of the game as more throngs came to be made me reflect on Earth asap. The ending, so beautiful. I got “Ruler”. It really made me think of choices in life. And the biggest lesson I got from this game is “Change is growth and growth is change”. Even before I got that message at the end of the game, I thought about it at the last level when things were getting too crazy but not much change was happening. I’ve felt stuck in real life before myself. This game is inspiring. Would have never thought a mobile game could have this much impact on my thoughts. Thank you to the creators. Amazing.
Thronglets is okay.
The game itself isn't a original idea: an ai from a video game becomes self aware, learns about the world and human values, goes bad, and of course tries to take over the real world (We have ultron at home the game). Understanably it is just the product if a game featured in a netflix show (black mirror, obviously) and it would center around the ideas from the show, with little room to improvise or make something new. However, the disappointment doesnt come from that, its the gameplay itself. Almost like a bad telltale game, none of your choices really matter besides small changes in dialogue. The show itself and the source material is interesting because the game isnt the core focus, its the story around the game that makes the idea of thronglets interesting. This doesnt have those gripping scenes... its the boring, overdone, practically cliche aspects of the episode turned into an interactive game.
Maybe if it took liberties and allowed the player to shape the thronglets according to what they did, and give seperate dradtic endings based on such choices, it would be great. But its just... mediocre. Would be more entertaining to watch a youtuber play it and react than play it yourself.
