This course has been designed to help Safeguarding Professionals understand FGM, the law, the context in which it takes place and your safeguarding responsibility with regards to FGM. This app will increase all Safeguarding Professionals’ confidence in dealing with issues around FGM. It will also ensure that they are well equipped to better identify children and young people who are at risk.
FGM is a form of physical abuse and of sexual and gender-based violence. It is therefore essential that all Safeguarding Professionals understand their safeguarding responsibilities in relation to this issue. This course provides relevant regional legislation and safeguarding links.
Learning Objectives:
- Develop your understanding of FGM, the background and cultural context
- Understand the impact of FGM, the signs to look out for and the potential risk factors
- Learn about the relevant legislation and laws related to FGM
- Recognise how you can build in safeguarding practices to protect children and young people and signpost to further support
