Carrier Battles Masterpiece
A detailed educational WW2 masterpiece! I’m amazed at the depth of the game and its replay-ability. Even playing the same scenario over and over is fresh and challenging. I love the strategic nature of the game. You plan all your moves then execute them making adjustments if necessary 20 minutes at a time, you can advance time up to 12 hours if need be. The battles are challenging and take some planning. It’s rough when the enemy attacks and you only have a few planes in CAP protecting your fleet. Preparation and planning are key to learning the real depth of this masterpiece. Now I’m personally not a fan of the music or sound effects, I prefer more dramatic/serious music rather than military marching songs. The alerts that pop up in the lower right hand corner are welcome and needed but the sound can be annoying, especially the radar sound. But that’s only my opinion which doesn’t take away anything from this masterpiece.
Great game
This is a wonderful “simulation” of world war 2 pacific naval combat as you put yourself in the shoes of the admirals of the pacific war like Halsey and Nagumo. The cat and mouse game of trying to find the enemy before they find you is gripping. The developer has put a great deal of research and thought into recreating the decisions that these admirals had to make. “Do I launch an attack now with limited information or do I wait until I am sure they are carriers?” The decision is the difference between victory and defeat. The tutorials are good so it is very easy to get into the game quickly. The developer has been very active and the gradual addition of seaplanes (a good search plan is critical), fog of war, and now submarines has only made the game more historically accurate and engrossing. If you are interested in World War 2 in the pacific particularly carrier warfare, this game is both historically accurate and entertaining!
