Contact Clearout 4+

So I found myself with a problem. Over the years my contacts in Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook and on my various i-devices all got muddled and I ended up with thousands of duplicates (each with slightly different info in them), especially as people moved companies etc. What do to? I looked at all the existing options I could find and none made sense, then I came across Contact Clearout and decided to take a chance. No reviews in 3 years and few reviews at all had me worried, but in the end .. I am happy to report that I am solving my problem using the tool on MACoS Mojave! Phew. Finally. I was not perfect, did crash occasionally and took a while to learn, but once you get the hang of it .. it really helps compare contacts, edit contacts and merge contacts in the best way I found after a year of looking. I rate it 4* as I think it still needs a few improvements to be top notch!

After a hardware failure earlier in the day I had to dig out a backup copy of the address book. Fortunatly I had a backup, but once I imported the data back into the address book I was left with a lot of duplicate entries, and other random issues. I download the app this evening and it worked fairly well. I found it pretty straight foreward and easy to use, and it saved me a lot of time.

I really wish it had a feature where you could delete a field in all the contacts. For example, delete all the notes for all contacts, or remove all job titles. Hopefully as they continue to upgrade the app, features like that could be added.

Thankfully it advised me to backup before using it. While it's generally prudent, with this app it's necessary. This can and will destroy your contacts. I can't even see any sort of value it provides. It crashes and fails and messes everything up. Avoid.
