Genius Loci é uma instalação de realidade aumentada de grande escala, site specific, adaptada para vários locais, com base em uma interpretação lúdica do conceito de “Genius Loci” (ou Spirit of Place). Uma grande criatura com personalidade estará residindo dentro do espaço determinado, flutuando, relaxando ou conversando consigo mesma e com o público. A Criatura é arrogante, sexy, sarcástica, às vezes desagradável, mas também fofa e adorável. A Criatura será visível através de Realidade Aumentada em dispositivos móveis e o público poderá brincar com ela usando interações de tela sensível ao toque. Este encontro com o humor e o sublime será uma experiência de visualização coletiva que visa aproximar as pessoas.

Genius Loci is a Large Scale, Site Specific Augmented Reality Installation, adapted for various locations, based on a playful interpretation on the concept of “Genius Loci” (or Spirit of Place). A large Creature with its own personalitywill be residing inside the given space, floating around, relaxing or talking to itself and the audience. The Creature is arrogant, sexy, snarky, sometimes obnoxious but also cute and lovable. The Creature will be visible through Augmented Reality on mobile devices and the audience will be able to play with it using touch-screen interactions. This encounter with the humorous and the sublime will be a collective viewing experience that aims to bring people together.

Theo Triantafylidis é um artista que constrói espaços virtuais e interfaces para que o corpo humano possa habitá-los. Ele cria mundos expansivos e sistemas complexos onde o virtual e o físico se fundem de maneiras estranhas, absurdas e poéticas. Estes são muitas vezes manifestados como performances, experiências de realidade virtual e aumentada, jogos e instalações interativas. Ele usa interações desajeitadas e física precária para convidar o público a incorporar, se envolver e desafiar essas outras realidades.

Através das lentes da teoria dos monstros, ele investiga temas de isolamento, sexualidade e violência em suas extremidades viscerais. Ele oferece humor computacional e improvisação de IA como resposta à agenda da indústria de tecnologia e tenta retribuir as comunidades online e de jogos, que considera a inspiração e o contexto de seu trabalho, permanecendo um participante e colaborador ativo desses espaços.

Theo Triantafyllidis is an artist who works with digital and physical media to explore the experience of space and the mechanics of embodiment in hybrid realities. Utilizing algorithms and game engines, virtual reality headsets and experimental performance processes, he creates interactions within immersive environments. In Triantafyllidis’s worlds awkward interactions and precarious physics mingle with uncanny, absurd and poetic situations, inviting the viewer to engage with new realities.

Through the lens of monster theory, he investigates themes of isolation, sexuality and violence in their visceral extremities. He offers computational humor and AI improvisation as a response to the tech industry’s agenda. He tries to give back to the online and gaming communities that he considers both the inspiration and context for his work by remaining an active participant and contributor.
