A safe, fun, and beautiful app to share location, connect with friends, and find interesting places to visit.
Forced to share contacts
Unable to complete the onboarding process without sharing contacts. Sharing location data obviously makes sense, but contacts are unnecessary - I’ll connect with the people I want to connect with.
Edit: Force killing the app seems get around the forced contact-share flow. Updating to 3 stars

We’re listening carefully to feedback about our design for the contact sync feature and are evaluating solutions that make finding friends easy for everyone, even if you choose not to sync your contacts. We feel strongly that Gowalla is best with real friends, which is why we initially designed the feature this way, and we have worked carefully to ensure syncing is secure and contacts never leave your device.
Bringing fun and a human touch to social
I loved the original. The art, the whimsy, the fun. Connection with friends and places is the best promise of social. Bravo to the team.
