By connecting the Hövding device to a mobile phone the user gets notified when it’s time to charge the Hövding. The application also sends an automatic emergency text message (SMS) to contacts selected by the user if an accident occurs. The user can also see personal cycling statistics and contribute to creating a safer, healthier and greener world via the Hövding community.

Key features and functionality:

- Battery notifications: Never run out of battery again, the app reminds you to charge your Hövding.

- Emergency contacts: Select up to 5 contacts that get notified via SMS if an accident occurs.

- Cycling statistics: See you personal cycling stats and achievements. Average speed, distance traveled, time spent, calories burnt and CO2 reduction.

- Hövding community: We passionately want to build a brighter future by fully understanding current cycling. Our aim is to influence decision makers to create safer traffic and improve the cycling infrastructure. By letting us handle their cycling data with responsibility and care, users participate in achieving our future goals. Together, we create a better world for urban cyclists.

Surprisingly limited app

- I seem to need to log on repeatedly (and go through an introductory screen as though I were a new user each time)
- I guess I can only be logged on with 1 device at a time - iPhone or iPad.
- there is no cumulative information on my trips that I can find.
- only one leg of a trip is captured as I can see, meaning that when I stop somewhere and remove the helmet on my return trip the previous one is now gone.
- just noticed my trips in the last month were not captured as I didn’t check the app each time I biked ( I hope that it is not necessary to log on every time and that the helmet still functions without logging on)

Developer Response ,

Hi outstanding apo, thank you for your review. We're sorry about the long lead time. You can only be logged in to a single device at any time (your Hövding can also only be connected to one device at a time). If you log into the app on a second device, you'll be disconnected from the other.
The app currently shows stats for your latest trip, your longest trip and your all time cumulative (tap the 'bicycle' in the menu bar and then 'You' at the top of the screen) . For your trips to be registered your Hövding must be connected to a device with cellular connection. You also need to be logged into Hövding App on that device, and the app must be running in the background (or on screen).
Hövding's airbag system works independently from the app. Your Hövding will always protect you when activated, with or without the app. Ride safe!

Just downloaded, will update..

Looks good so far. I like knowing I can put an emergency contact. More than one in fact!

_Update_ After actual use of app, it seems to lack a visual trip summary (like electric scooter can provide). Developers, please fix this! I will have to see if I can download a running app that can document my trips.

Developer Response ,

Hi MeHere007, thank you for your feedback and for choosing Hövding! We hope that you will enjoy cycling with your Hövding and feel safe knowing your protected by the worlds safest bicycle helmet. Ride safe!

It feels like the app limitations are a result of not staffing the right talent, or that there isn’t someone in the company who is focused solely on user experience. 2 stars because the physical product is great but the digital experience is wasteful. The most important thing with a device like this is checking the battery via an app. You can easily do this with headphones and other devices that have a supporting app, but the Hövding app is like a static landing page. Hire a strategic HR and org development person to help be intentional about finding the right development staff to do more with less if there is no company resource to make this happen to date.

We're sorry that you're not satisfied with the app. We're continuously working on improvements to both specific functionality and overall user experiencing. Regarding battery indication, we recently made the tough choice to temporarily disable the function, as we discovered that the calculations sent to the app were inconsistent with the once made directly on the device – indicated by the Back LED when short pressing the Function button). We apologise for the inconvenience and are working on a solution to bring the feature back in an upcoming update.
