Has taken over my calendar w/o permission
I didn’t have this app, & as I have for years, invited someone to my appointment as I booked it into my calendar. This person drives me to medical procedures, & this is the simple way to do it, as I use my Gmail & Google calendar apps. When I was working, I used it the same way to set up in person meetings. However, now in my notes, a huge notification & link shows up stating that this is a video call! Why would I invite my driver to a video call? I didn’t even have this app installed at the time! I only installed it to write this review. In person meetings & appointments are still happening during COVID, as there are some things that HAVE to be done in person. The developers have set video meetings up as the default for ALL meetings no matter whether people have the app or not (even the person SETTING the meeting!), which is a bit of a boneheaded move. Please change it back, so you’re not inconveniencing & confusing every single person who is setting up in person, socially distant, masked meetings. Let people set the meetings for video calls from inside THIS app, and set it up so they show on their calendar, rather than for y’all calendar meetings to be video. I may try your app in the future, but this whole thing took something really simple & made it frustrating & time-consuming. Thanks.

It isa somewhat good app but it could be better...
Let me start by saying I am glad there are more options other than zoom. Do I think this is a better app than zoom? No. It has the potential because it is from google but it needs upgrades. First, you need to make the connection better. If I am on a call sometimes that persons screen will only show their icon and not their face. Secondly, a grid view would make this app much better. Just to have the option to see everyone at the same time would make it more enjoyable than switching every five seconds because some kid dropped his pencil. I also think this could make it better than zoom; if you have the option to make a grid view where you do not have to scroll between screens that would be better. Lastly, if you want to make a good app, (which google has done many a time) you need to have options. The more options the better. If people want to see everyone then make it happen. If people want to see just their teacher, make it happen. I know that google can do much better than this, because they have shown me through google drive, google docs, and especially google classroom. I do like that you can mute and turn off your screen, but I know this app has the potential to be much better than zoom.

As a teacher I give it a solid F
My district told us we had to stop using zoom much to my dismay. This is a poor, absolutely horrific substitute. In zoom I have a waiting room and I can talk to one student at a time then let another one in from the waiting room when it’s their turn. There is no such option here so constantly one kid will be privy to another’s personal feedback. In zoom, when I create a meeting I have total control unless I give it to another. That means I can mute and unmute all or one and only I can present until I say otherwise. Here I have random students muting and unmuting themselves and presenting their screens at will which led one parents text messages to show up on screen. Also the lack of grid view for iOS is appalling. Using an iPad Pro I like that I can share my screen and write directly on with my Apple Pencil but then I can’t see my students and switching out of presenting mode on the app is a nightmare. I always get stuck with this huge square in the middle of the screen and I can’t do anything so I usually just talk and hope my kids aren’t raising their hands. Seriously google get it together. The fact that this app has your name on it is a disgrace.
