Hue Camera Ambient Lighting makes an effect similar to Ambilight using your Philips Hue Lights and the device's camera. Aim your camera at your TV or any other source and your lights will change color to match the scene you are viewing.

The app captures from the camera with continuous autofocus and exposure enabled and using sophisticated algorithms to figure out the most important color from the image.

Hue Camera Ambient Light features the ability to zoom up to 8 times so you can sit your device farther away from the source. You can also choose the brightness, speed of the color changes and individual or multiple lights to use the effect.

The app now has the ability to use different colours from each quadrant of the image (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right) or the full image. This lets you use 4 light strips on each corner of a TV!

2019 Update:
The app now uses the new Hue Entertainment SDK which allows for much faster light synchronization. Be sure to set up an entertainment area in the official Hue app first.

Doesn’t work.

I have a hue lightship behind my TV. This app doesn’t seem to work at all. It just randomly flashes my light strip if I zoom the camera in towards a white pixel on the screen. Brightness slider doesn’t seem to work, doesn’t have a landscape mode (so you can set your iPad or iPhone on its side). Save your money.

Whites are way too bright relative to colors

When white lights are triggered, it lights up my whole room but when colors like blue or green are triggered they are barely lit. The app really should be able to account for that and reduce the brightness of white relative to the colors.

The app technically works in the most basic sense but it is not currently an enjoyable experience.

This app won’t run, just crashes on both iPhone and iPad. Tried to contact developer but email was returned because the mailbox was full!
