Mate: Universal Tab Translator 4+

Right away I have a feature request

Downloaded this a few days ago & decided to bite the price bullet, even though there is at least one other decent translation app for Mac out there that costs significantly less. What sold me on this one is the interdevice (Mac OS & iOS) sync capability and that there are things I like about the display options. For example, when I add a word to translate, the translation includes a list of related words indicating overlapping meanings. So I learn that rather than use “pedir” for “ask”, I might want to use “invitar”. The other app does this, too, but not as concisely and immediately visible, i.e., you have to scroll down the page.

But there is one significant (for me) feature that as far as I can tell this app lacks. That feature is that there is no way to unmoor the popup window from the Mac menu bar and move it around the desktop. So I can’t move that window around when it covers a part of the screen with information I am working with. This is a problem, for example, in Safari when the info I want to be able to see is at the very top of the page. I can deal with this a lot of the time by repositioning Safari (but then I have to reposition it when I am through) and by moving the Mate app in the menu bar, but all that that is klutzy. So if I could unpin the dropdown window & place it anywhere on the screen, where it would stay till I got rid of it, that would be great!

I have tried every single Mac translator app that is free or allows a free trial. This is the only acceptable one. It's not perfect, but it works for me. The keyboard shortcut works in Calibre reader, which is very important since the mac dictionary does not work in there, but I wish I didn't have to copy the text first. The shortcut should automatically translate the selected text in my opinion. I like the popup when selecting text in safari.
Problems: The sound does not work for russian. Also It does not translate offline; when my internet went out, this app was useless.

Seamless, Accurate Translator

I text a client in Spanish offline and this translator works seamlessly. I can copy or type text in, and set it so it translates instantly and copies automatically to my clipboard so I can just paste right into a text on my computer. I can actually type and translate so quickly on my computer that I actually have to slow down to accommodate a person texting with their fingers on a phone. It is much faster and more private than a web-based translater, and more accurate translation, too. And it also identifies which language I'm translating from instantly, so no clicking a button to switch from translating my language to theirs, to translating their language to mine. This is a very well designed app and makes it possible for me to work in another language without trying to use a live translator - which I do have access to - but which takes a lot of time and there are platform compatability issues there. LOVE THIS APP.
