No advertisements. No in-app purchases. Just peace of mind for parents that their kids are playing with a premium, world-class learning app.

Pedagogical steps:

- Learning how different pieces move and capture.
- Learning the notion of checkmate and simple checkmating patterns.
- Learning to complete simple tactical and strategic tasks.
- Intro to basic checkmating techniques against a lone king.
- Complete games versus a basic chess engine.

The main goal of "Magnus' Kingdom of Chess" is to introduce children to chess rules and strategies so they learn enough to transition to a real board.

Through a smooth progression, kids will be introduced to each chess pieces over six different worlds where players will meet Magnus Carlsen himself as well as a mysterious Prince. Step by step they will solve chess situations with more and more pieces, and apply more and more chess rules.

Once they complete the game they receive a diploma and they'll be ready to play against other children, family or at school, as well as playing with other apps from Play Magnus such as the Magnus trainer or Play Magnus.

Amazing game

My 7 year old had no background with chess at all. I bought this app on Friday evening, and just handed the tablet to her. I figured she could ask for help if she needed it. By Sunday morning, she was challenging her dad and me to a game on our real board; she was so excited! A week of playing it in the car on the way to school, and one of her teachers told me she was teaching her friends to play on the library board. They got a kick out of listening to her describe how each piece moved, and the cost-benefit of sacrificing a piece, all in the language of a 2nd grader. Seriously an amazing app. This was such a great investment! Ty!

My 5 Year Old is Obsessed!!!

Working from home while homeschooling is so totally nuts for us, but on the other side of coronavirus I will at least be able to say that (despite never seeing a chess set before in his life) this app turned my kindergartener into a chess player! He would rather play this game than any other video game and we’ve recently moved to a real chess board and the whole family is honing our previously nonexistent chess skills!! He will have this skill (and hopefully the interest) for life. It’s simple but so well done and effective!!!!

No reason to hesitate

If you want your child to learn how to play chess, buy this. We are about 3 hours in, and my 4-year old has already internalized the moves and captures of pawns, rooks, and the king (the pieces he’s been introduced to so far in the game) and various tactical ideas (like the rook being weak if it is blocked). An excellent game, with attention to detail. As good as all their other apps, which you should also check out.
