Produced by the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, Getty Unshuttered is a positive community for teen photographers like you to share your unique view of the world, grow your skills, and build your portfolio. It’s free to use and ad-free, too.
THE WORLD NEEDS ARTISTS
Artists are activists. Artists are powerful. A force to be reckoned with. It’s a simple equation: more art, better world.
Getty Unshuttered is a free photo sharing app from the Getty Museum. It’s built to be a positive community for teen artists to raise their voices for social good. To inspire each other. To grow as artists.
What are you passionate about? What do you want to change? Snap it. Share it. Energize others to act. That’s a virtuous cycle, right?
A MUSEUM MADE A PHOTO SHARING APP?
We did. Why? Because we believe everyone is an artist and we wanted a place where they could gather, share, and learn. Is it going to compete with big social media apps? No. It’s not meant to. Were they built for artists? No, they weren’t. Unshuttered is different. It’s supportive and free.
LEVEL UP YOUR SKILLS
Our new skill tree offers dozens of quick and easy photo tips to get your creativity going. As you complete skills you’ll earn points and level up. Be one of the top photographers on Unshuttered. Share your photos and inspire other photographers with your images. Every post helps you get noticed. How far can you grow as an artist? Challenge yourself!
SUPPORT OTHER ARTISTS
Like and follow other photographers to help them grow, too. The Unshuttered team at the Getty Museum is always on the lookout for great work and new artists to celebrate. Every accolade helps you level up. Your work could be a “Getty Pick” or sport a “Picture of the Day” badge.
Getty Unshuttered is produced by the J. Paul Getty Museum and is an official app of the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles. Getty Unshuttered is inspired by Genesis Motor America and its commitment to education through the arts.

Ratings and Reviews
I love the idea behind the purpose for this app but it keeps crashing every time I try to upload a photo or scroll through portfolios to look at other pictures.
Developer Response ,
Thank you for your feedback and for being part of our community. We've been working hard to squash as many bugs in Getty Unshuttered as we can. We hope you will consider downloading the most current version and trying our app again. Feel free to contact us for any additional assistance at email@example.com.
Weak execution with good intentions
The idea of challenges is a good one. Problem is, why recreate Instagram. This should use a users existing IG photos submitted to this from that feed.
In addition, you must create an account before finding out more information about this. There should be a more information given before having to sign up. The only upside is the ability to easily deactivate an account, which I did after 20 minutes after checking this out.
Developer Response ,
We love Instagram too. If its your jam connect with us @gettyunshuttered or #unshuttered. You'll find our photo tips right in our feed.
Good idea, no quality control
I deleted this within a few minutes of downloading, there’s no quality control and I was bombarded with d*** pics as soon as I opened up a category.
