Very Nice Upgrade
I love this application for family history work. I have used since version 6 came out. The only "negative" issue I have with this application is the inability to just print out a family group sheet or pedigree in plain text format. There are those times these are needed, instead of very graphically visualized several page document of a family group sheet for example. Well, and maybe some of the charts are a bit over the top and display nicely on screen, but are not able to be printed to paper.
I love the sourcing part of the application. So many different ways to add a source from whatever source type, like a URL, a media item, sync from FamilySearch, etc.
The Smart Filters feature is also nice to pull different types of groups of people together based on a variety of different criteria.
I love that media files can be kept stored with the application and not be linked to an outside drive. With use of "cloud drives" this probably isn't as important, but for those who don't know how to use cloud drives, it would be an issue.
There are many other great features but this review box is about filled up. :) Support has also been QUITE good over the years.
Excellent Genealogy / Family History application.
I've been using MacFamilyTree software for 5 years and recently upgrated to version 9.1.2. I've used other Genealogy / Family History software in the past but they don't compare to the MacFamilyTree 9 application. Even if you're just starting to keep your genealogy and history, this appliation is easy to learn, easy to use, and provides for the capability of recording not only names, events and dates, but history about family members, such as stories, eduation, photos, notes on events and photos, and more. The reporting and charting capabiities are very good and easy to use. You can quickly create reports such as a Person Report that contains the information on the person, all notes in you've put in their MacFamilyTree record, a list of every relative they have in the MacFamilyTree family database, and how the person is related to each relative. I could go on but let me just summarize by saying that I don't think anyone would not be impressed by this software and would know that they made a good decision in obtaining it.
Absolutely terrific program
I have been using it for about a month now. I had tried to use a geneology program before but it always seemed like so much trouble. But I have recently renewed my interest in documenting my family tree and decided to try again with MacFamilyTree..
This program is absolutely terrific. It is easy to add people,events, or fact to the database. I can add media (pictures,PDFs,etc) to any of those items. I can flag things that are incomplete or important. And there is an extensive list of events and flags that I can use. I can also add more to fit mysituation if I want.
It will do a slideshow for people of the pictures I added. It has an Assistant mode where it will step me through questions to start out if I didn't know where to start; or really at any time. It integrates with FamilySearch for accessing data that others have already put together. I can upload my tree (password protected) to share with other family members to view graphically on the internet (including the added media).
I simply can't imagine anything that I would want to keep track of that this program couldn't handle. It is as close to perfect as you can get in a program.
I have read the few bad reviews and can't help but wonder if these come from competitors. Nothing that they are saying makes any sense. You won't be disappointed with this software.
