Description

Read news anywhere you normally do- in your browser, thru Facebook, Twitter, and other news apps. To dig deeper and fact-check or rate any news article, tap Share, then Newstrition (you may have to tap More and add Newstrition the first time).

These interactive nutritional labels for news make it easier to distinguish between real & junk news, by providing full transparency & fact-checking tools attached to every news story.

This app provides two usage modes:

* Fact Checking Mode — Read news where you normally do. To open Newstrition, tap Share, then Newstrition. You may have to tap More and add Newstrition the first time.

* Browsing Mode — View the latest fact-checking content in our platform, and rate as you read, through the Newstrition feed.

Non-partisan and free for consumers, our platform makes it easier for anyone to separate fact from fiction. Powered by Our.News, in partnership with AllSides.

We hope you enjoy and welcome your feedback. Email us at info@newstrition.com for more information.

A useful tool for determining truth

Headlines are now dominated by many articles that are misleading clickbait. This is because news agencies are rewarded for the number of clicks and views they get instead of the quality of their reporting.

The Newstrition app is helpful because it allows you to easily see user ratings, publisher data, and relevant sources for any article you read. You can rate articles yourself to contribute to the public good.

This app will be become even more helpful as more people download it and start rating the news. Hopefully it can help us distinguish fact from fiction.

Simply put, this app greatly improves the experience of reading the news.

Not sure what’s going on here. Good idea, poor execution

I think the whole premise is that the app is supposed to crowdsource fact-checking and bias identification, but the user interface is so clunky that it's not even worth it for me to try to rate anything. Also, the first three categories are Top Stories, Trending News, and Headlines, which all seem to mean the same thing? Seems that the only thing this app has going for it is the catchy "Newstrition" name, but most articles "newstrition" labels have nothing in them, rendering them useless. It is just a super new service? I had SUPER high hopes for this, I've been looking for a way to verify the quality of my news. It's a good idea, but not very well executed.

Developer Response ,

Hello and thank you so much for the feedback! While this is a new service, all articles do have complete Newstrition information attached. To see all the details, try swiping left/right between the Newstrition cards -- Publisher Information, Fact-Check Information, and Ratings. Also, the news reading portion of the app, where you're seeing the Top Stories, Trending News, and Headlines categories, is meant to be a demo only-- Newstrition is not a news service itself. The app is best used within other news and social media apps via the Share extension, so that you can pull up the Newstrition Labels for any news article wherever you're already reading news. Apologies if that isn't clear in our app description!

We're always looking to improve-- would you mind providing more specifics about what you find to be clunky about the rating interface? To rate any article, all you have to do is tap any rating button on the Ratings card, to rate the Spin, Trust, and Relevance of any news article.

Thank you again, and please don't hesitate to write us directly at newstrition@newseum.org if you would like to share additional feedback or help us make this app better!
