Fun, powerful, and the perfect solution for architects.

I originally switched from Adobe because I couldn't justify the price for something I only used a few times a month.

Switching was awkward as I learned the tiny ways that Designer is different from Illustrator. But once I learned, I think that in most cases Designer has a better way of handling those subtle UI areas.

Now that I've gotten used to it, I LOVE it. Instead of just using it once in a while when I "needed" too like with Illustrator, I enjoy drawing more in Designer and use it all the time.

Interestingly, I have it on both desktop and iPad and use it differenty in both places. I draw with it much more on the iPad and use the desktop version for more precision or "graphic design" work. Mostly the choice comes down to screen size but also because it's just more fun to draw on the iPad version.

The most recent update includes a killer feature for me. DWG support. As an architect, my world revolves around CAD and BIM formats and I've always wanted a lightweight, graphic friendly program for creating content to bring into my work (but is still powerful and reliable). Designer is powerful and reliable and now I can draw content like logo's, people, or trees on my iPad and bring them into my drawings in a way I've dreamt of for 30 years.

Thank you!

FREEDOM & GRACE

I was an Adobe user on Mac since Pagemaker in 1987. I have had and used Photoshop since its inception. I owned CS6. It was a little bloated but it did what I needed it to do...until my Mac died after 10 years crossing the world THREE times. The subscription basis of the Adobe suite was a slap in the face for a long time user and OWNER of the suite. A friend suggested I try Affinity and before the trial was even done I was back up and working on a new Mac without paying the bloodmoney for a subscription. It took only two weeks and I am back doing full steam production on my graphic novel.

Very buggy and difficult to use

Software has great set of features for a reasonable price, but unfortunately it is extremely buggy and at times insanely difficult to use. For example, if you want to resize a page it will not let you use a custom size that is different from your current aspect ratio. If you try to set a new size it will force the other dimension to preserve the same aspect ratio. If you look online there are long pages of tips of how to do a page resize, something that should be extremely simple to do (and is simple in every other program I have ever used). In this case you have to create a new document with the correct size and copy everything over. This is just one example. This is NOT the software you want to be using when you have an upcoming deadline.
