Love this app

Ever since I started djing, this app got me started with the low budget that I have and this app offers capabilities for the creative mind. For a dj on a budget, Ihad no idea how much access I had to pull off amazing sounds and tricks and express it to your taste and likings. IfI couldn’t achieve a sound ai was looking for there were many other options to find that sound or trick. I got nothing but smooth transitions between effects and the neural feature- allay my finger tips. Super easy to use, and super easy to figure out. This software will capture your creative mind and is user friendly as I am partially blind it helps me achieve the normalcy I lost by mixing tracks of my own into my favorite tracks and mixing and remixing top hits. I began my journey for people on a low budget that wanted music at their parties and all I had was a pa and jumbled music between two phones. I got this app to make my life easier to play music at these parties on my iPad and it helped push me into a more professional more quality type mixing than I intended, and now here zi am with a dj controller mixing on a whole different level for my low income clientele and currently now branching out performing small festivals and small bars and clubs embracing my music and my visions of their favorite songs all because I took chance on this app Thank you so much for making this quality app for low budget visionaries like myself and young artists and beginning djs around the globe!!!!

Best app for the job!

I don’t write reviews for anything, but I figure since I’m probably in a very small minority of people who use this app for the purpose I use it for, I have a particularly unique outlook. As a worship leader, I use this app during every step of my planning and execution of song service.
During song selection, I can quickly look at my library of songs, and find ones that can match the keys we’re performing in or order them to provide easy transitions between key changes, or find songs of a particular tempo I’m looking to use during certain parts of the service.
During practice, if we are listening to a new song, I can slow it down so the musicians can catch on quicker, or modulate the key to match the singer’s range(s). Then, if there’s a transition straight into another song, they can hear what that sounds like with the blending features.
If I’m only playing music in-house and not performing, I can keep a flow without missing a beat, actually using the app for how it was intended.
In short, this is a highly underrated app that can be used for far more than its intended purpose. Yes, I know there are other apps out there that may do “this” one thing or “that” other thing better, but as a whole package, this app has been a great asset throughout.

Play music off iCloud/ files, ditch iTunes music

I don’t have a computer, just a phone. There aren’t many decent music players for iOS. I make my own music, on my phone, and like to listen to them. I can do that with this player. It makes listening to music really fun. You can play around with effects, record, mix, and has some pretty intuitive features. It did eat my battery pretty fast. Not something that you can use all the time, unless you’re plugged in. I see dj’s as music makers that haven’t really taken that crucial next step into music making. You could call them posers, or noobs. Especially since everyone can afford to make music on their computers and phones/ iPads now. I see if dj apps want to make it in the future now, they’ll need to start seeing themselves as musical instruments. Therefore integrate themselves into AUM/ Audiobus/ audio units/ plug-ins/ effects. Without this, it’s kind of all gimmicky and doesn’t really last/ transitional to say the least. Dj’s are well mostly fake. Ai can do everything they do. Sure they bring the energy and promote music. But to really bring it, is to make music, and step on fan mode.

Most used app on my phone

Ever since my hardware started acting screwy, I decided to give some alternatives a try. I’ve only ever mixed and recorded analog... 1200s, CDJs with actual CDs, mixer into the AUX of a stereo, cassette recordings... I’ve never used software before. I wouldn’t even know how to connect my laptop to my mixer. Yeah I know... ridiculous, right? But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Well... it broke. So I decided to give some of the DJ apps a try.
And I gotta say... most of the ones I tired were pretty terrible. Hot garbage, if I’m being honest. They had interesting qualities but wasn’t quite “there”. And the recordings sounded worse than my cassette recordings, hiss and all. This was the last app I tried. And I fell in love. So much so, I actually pay for it... and if you knew me... you’ll know I never spend money on apps. Only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5, is because the app drains my battery pretty quickly. Otherwise it’s be the full 5 stars.
Anyways, hope my review is helpful to someone on the fence about giving it a try. All I’ll say is, this is by far the best app I’ve come across that fulfills what I need in a DJ setup... and more. I’ve tried about 4 other ones, and not only is this smoother and easier to use, the UI is way better looking than the others I tried. Solve that battery draining problem and I’d go as far as it say it’s perfect (for what I need).
Good luck!

Bait and switch (updated)

I previously wrote an angry review with one star for this app. I am seriously annoyed with companies switching to a subscription model instead of supporting apps or desktop applications people have already paid for and expected support for. That said, I am updating my review and rating due to the fact that this update is excellent. It’s the best DJ app on iOS. For 4 stars, I implore Algoriddim GmbH to allow for more comprehensive editorial of the beat grid. Bonus points for allowing the user to create new audio files with truncated versions of tracks. Some songs have sliding, evolving, or distinct tempo sections. “Batdance” by Prince is a great example. There’s basically another song embedded in the middle of that track. As a vinyl DJ I understand that skill can overcome these limitations, but as an Apple customer who just bought a powerful new iPad Pro, I want my machine to use all it’s processor power to make my life easier and to free up my brain goo processor for other creative activities (microphone banter, visuals, dance-offs, etc).

For 5 stars, make this app compatible with Audiobus technology (like DJ Pro is/was).

I would also suggest, if they are receptive, ask Ableton if “DJ” can read .ALS files so that all the warp marking labor undertaken by users can be interpreted non-destructively (ie: without rendering a new audio file). Keep up the good work.

Mixing Videos is almost a breeze!

I love this app, I have been using it for a few years now. Recently upgraded to iPad Pro and Mixon 8 pro. My only complaint is the visualizations on the looper. I use video mixing in my sets and I remix tracks live with the looper, and unfortunately i have to disable the visualizations on each track manually, I wish there was a way todo this with one button, please add this feature! I would love to see some mic effects too, maybe echo synced with the track, that would be amazing!
I used serato and every DJ app out there, I feel the features of djay pro are way ahead of the competition, and I literally use every single one of them, neural mix, sampler creating my own beats, looper and of course the video mixing.
One other thing about the video mixing, I’d love to use the pro or simple interface while the videos are still playing in the video output but when I load the track if you click not now, the. The video won’t load, and if you Dont it always switches you to the video interface, maybe a lock interface option and always load videos if there is a video track?

Developer Response ,

Hi athanlive, Thanks so much for the positive feedback! We're glad that you like djay. We appreciate your suggestions about the visualizations and our team takes all feedback into consideration to continually improve the app. Regarding effects for the vocals, simply activate an effect from the FX panel and it will apply to whatever audio is coming from the selected deck. Please note djay also offers more advanced FX routing, and if you need further assistance with these features please reach out any time at feedback@algoriddim.com. Happy mixing! Subscription required/absolute ripoff

I’m a DJ and Musician so I thought this app might be fun to have on my phone to mess around with and maybe use to build set lists when I’m out but nope, it requires a subscription. There’s no need to constantly pay for an app like this. If it does everything it claims to do I would have been willing to pay good money for this (like the $30 their asking for yearly payments of) but as a one time fee not repeatedly that’s wild of the developers to think that any DJ app justifies a monthly or yearly bill. These developers are getting out of hand trying to make everything a subscription, you could use this money to buy new music every month or sign up for a music streaming service or if you’re a new DJ trying to get started, save the money and put it towards real DJ gear. A monthly or yearly subscription no matter how much for an app like this is an absolute ripoff, a one time fee would have been more appropriate.
Actual legitimate music creation apps like Drambo, Korg gadget and Koala sampler that have the tools and features to create an entire song from scratch are even one time fee apps and they are much more complex and harder to design than an app that simply lets you play back and DJ music that’s already made. Absolute rip off and greedy of the devs, this one is an instant delete.

Hi Matthew savant, Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. With djay Pro AI, we’re offering a completely free version with all the core features needed to start mixing right away. djay allows you to easily mix all the music you have stored on your device and offers a varied collection of songs, along with a variety of beats and sounds, to add to your mix. The optional PRO subscription provides access to advanced features and continuously updated content. A subscription-based pricing model has been key to providing the ongoing resources needed to continually develop the app, as well as to add an extensive range of new features like Neural Mix and new sample, loop, and visual packs. In addition, you can now use djay across all of your iOS and Mac devices, with the option to cancel the subscription at any time. Love it!...but it could use a few tweaks

This app is how I listen to music; I barely even use the music app anymore. I like the wide range of effects I can choose from, I like the malleability of the software when it comes to changing tempo and almost everything else. Lastly, I absolutely love how you can see the tempos and keys of songs while you're selecting one in your library and that you can change the pitch or keep it the same, even when you need to tweak the BPM a bit.

However, no great app is without its flaws. First off, there has been a recurring bug even since Djay 2 was a thing, where the app would mislabel the artist of quite a few of the songs in the music library. For example, the song "Astrocat" by an artist called PIXL is labeled by the app under a different artist in my library, for example, "Droptek and Tut Tut Child." Second off, I have a question. Djay 2 had a feature where you could record your own samples and make your own sample packs. It doesn't say whether this comes with pro features or not. Is that a pro features thing or was it removed entirely?
Again, I love the app, but just a few bugs may need to be fixed.

Developer Response ,

Hi Megamaster135778, Thanks so much for your feedback. We really appreciate you sharing your thoughts about djay, and it’s awesome to hear you’re enjoying all the features you’ve mentioned in the app. Regarding the mislabeling of the artist issue you’ve described, we haven’t been able to reproduce this on our devices here. Please contact us at feedback@algoriddim.com if this issue persists so we can take a closer look. You also asked about recording your own samples and creating your own sample packs. This is a feature included with the PRO subscription of the latest version of djay. If you have any other questions or feedback, feel free to get in touch with us. Happy mixing! Best Dj app you can Download 1major flaw

This app is incredible taking Djing into the future all the features are next level. Being able to create stems on the fly is just mind boggling crazy good. But what is the point if you can play any of the music from the music app you either need tidal or deezer if you Do you can’t record your mixes. Which I understand using these apps that’s fine. So I load my iPhone & iPad with music I get from BpM supreme and I keep getting The music is DRM protected or not downloaded. And the music I have is Downloaded I keep checking and re download still get that error and can not be played but it works just fine in the desktop Djay app. It’s super frustrating the work around I have is using files app but still all my music playlist I can’t use is a frustrating experience. Been supporter since Day 1 literally followed algoriddim since 2012 and I subscribed right away when the app went monthly. And I support paying $5 because the Game changing features you guys offer but if I can not play any music on the music app that’s in my phone what’s the point l!! it’s Ike having a tricked out Ferrari that can’t leave the garage.

Developer Response ,

Started Out Great

I have been a long time supporter of this app, even after they switched to a subscription model. However, the software is becoming so crowded with features it is hard to use the app to dj from track to track and quickly find what I need to “work” my mixes. In addition, the more they add the further Djay loses sight of the basics. A great example is the massive lag between the beat grid displayed and the sound played - the track marker for the beat being played does not line up with the sound coming out of the iPad. I would expect this perhaps on older hardware but not on a new 12.9” iPad Pro with 1TB of storage. I implore you to resolve this issue at it makes mixing live impossible for accuracy and forces the use of the sync button which sometimes takes a beat or two to align the tracks. Additionally it would be nice to see an option to display or hide features and components to regain valuable real estate. Finally, please please add a feature to number the tracks in a playlist as this is extremely useful for setting up shows, returning to a visible order after sorting or editing, etc. Keep up the good work, but please fix the basics before shooting for the moon.

Developer Response ,

Hi MrMovieTX, Thanks for your feedback and for your long-time support. We really appreciate your suggestions, so if you are willing to share more about your review, please contact us at feedback@algoriddim.com. It would be helpful to get a little more information about your current audio setup to determine what might be causing the lag you've described. We'd also be interested to hear more specifics about what features you'd like to be able to hide in the UI to make it less complicated. Thanks in advance and hope to hear from you soon!
