Fast moving but flawed
Overall this is a flashy and enjoyable way to play gin rummy alone. There are, however, some really irritating negatives. As others have noted, the app is programmed to make all decisions for how to apply cards to runs or pairs. Most of the time the decisions are reasonable, but occasionally a card first placed in a run will be removed to create three of a kind. Suddenly what I have been working on has to be completely started over because the leftover cards go with nothing. The other real irritation is I don’t think the distribution of cards is random. I can hold a pair of face cards until it’s time to unload them. The minute I discard one of them the computer immediately discards the same card in a different suit. This happens far too often for it to be coincidental. Finally, after selecting a difficulty level and playing 15-20 games you are progressed through “levels” starting at “1”. I have searched the entire app and I cannot find anything that explains the point or purpose of these progressing levels.
Too much flash and promotion
I liked the previous version better. Newer version makes “bouncing” announcements of Knock, Gin, etc., which is annoying, and exudes self-importance — may be trying to make is more like a Vegas game, but that’s not why I purchased it. Also, there are now pop in alerts to buy another game. Again, not why I bought this game. Also, I don’t like that when a gin hand occurs they tell you and tell you what card to throw. The player should make the decision (or the mistake).
Fun game with a few drawbacks
This is a good gin rummy game. I've never played against real people, but their "hard" game engine is fun. I am trying to accrue enough free coins to buy the "insane" game engine player, but it definitely takes a while. Of course if I wasn't so cheap I could pay $4.99 and unlock it immediately, but I feel like I already paid money for the game so why pay more? One comment about those who say you have no control over your hand--select the "manual meld" button on the start screen and the automatic melding stops. On the whole I recommend this game.
