Easy but basic

By far the best pregnancy app out there! The kick counter and contraction timers are GREAT. I adore the growing hand and foot images as well, so precious and it just helps the whole experience of pregnancy feel more real. I also really appreciate the anonymous community feature as well! On my of biggest frustrations with other apps is questions being ignored/unseen because I wasn’t a “top member.”
I do have two other apps as well but each only serve one purpose. If Ovia would include these, they’d be a one stop shop far superior to the others!
I use Pregnancy+ solely for the 3D realistic baby. It just helps me feel connected to my baby to know and what he might be looking like each weak.
The other is app I use is The Bump. Similarly to Pregnancy+ there’s a more realistic visual. I love that I can see the baby in relation to my own body. It’s highly informative and helps keep my anxiety at bay. I also notice that The Bumps size comparisons seem to be a bit more in line with what I’ve seen online, though I do SO LOVE that you can change the theme of the size comparison with Ovia.
Overall, Ovia is the #1 app I would (and do) recommend to all my expecting friends and family.

Good but could be better

This app definitely has a ton of useful features and is great for tracking a LOT of things. However, I really wish it would let you put in your own medications to track and also not just suggest 3 medications you regularly input. For instance, I take probiotics daily and there isn’t even an option for that (which is a common supplement), plus I take other supplements not listed. Let me input my own to record please. I also take more than 3 things every day but it only shows me 3 options and then I have to manually search for everything else every single day. Meanwhile it suggests like 6 of the top medicines people take all the time, but I don’t take any of those so they just take up space where I would rather see MY top 6.

I also wish I could add multiple meds or symptoms without being spit back out to the data page after every single one. Let me select everything and then hit done so I don’t have to keep coming back into the symptom or med tracker and hitting search over and over.

There are other minor annoyances with the UI too, one being that it often glitches and shows me the data tab at the bottom of the calendar screen even though I selected the notes tab. And when you try to view the trends graphs, you can’t zoom out to view the whole graph; you can only see like 2 dots on it at a time. Just feels like the app could use an upgrade and a slight UI makeover.

Flexibly useful

I’m nearly 18 weeks pregnant and have been using Ovia every day for months. When I first found out I was pregnant I installed five different pregnancy apps. Ovia quickly became my favorite because the health tracking is so flexible and intuitive. I’ve been tracking my sleep, weight, and symptoms, and ignore the parts I’m not interested in tracking (e.g. mood, nutrition, exercise). I also like that there’s a nice-length article each week and some daily content that isn’t too overwhelming.

On the cons, sometimes the app takes a while to load, or to load the health tracking page. The daily questions of if I’m taking my prenatal vitamin got REALLY annoying really quickly, so now I just click “yes” on whatever question pops up when I first open the app to get past it quickly in the morning before I’ve forgotten my sleep hours. I think this has given the app some false data.

My biggest qualm though is that I can’t seem to export my tracking data. I can’t believe this isn’t an option! The app only lets you graph a few variables over time (weight, sleep—though not your total sleep if you log multiple stints of sleep a night—activity, steps, blood pressure, and nutrition) and I am just itching to make my own graphs of some of my symptoms over time. The fact that it looks like I’m going to have to pull the data out manually is a HUGE bummer. I’m hoping this becomes part of the app in the near future.

Mostly great

When I found out I was pregnant, I downloaded several pregnancy apps to see which one I liked best, and Ovia won out easily. I like the interface and the customization. I love the daily and weekly updates and little blurbs about what to expect from my body and what was happening with Baby and it’s development. The ability to track food, weight, symptoms, doctor’s appointments, just about everything is great! The way that articles and videos are broken down makes them easy to search and find what I want to read. And the medication and food safety look up has been amazing and saved me a lot of unnecessary phone calls to my midwife. This only reason this rating lost a star is because I felt like the high level of daily interaction became all but non-existent once I went over my due date. I’d get one targeted advertisement and maybe one blurb about “is the nursery ready?” or “only a few days left”. I missed the timely articles, and wish that instead of recycled blurbs there had been articles about induction or how common it is to go overdue. I know those sorts of things exist because I could look them up in the app, but I wish they had been automatically showing up on my feed as a means of reassurance. Overall a great app, but updating it a bit would be even better.

Good app but loss section needs work

I found this app during my second pregnancy and think it’s the best general pregnancy app out there. The reason for the four stars is that the pregnancy loss section needs a lot of work. As a loss mom who lost my first baby at 36 weeks I was encouraged to see a loss section but really disappointed by how all the loss articles were generalized around early miscarriage. Unfortunately, the reality of life is that not all pregnancies end with a healthy baby and I think as an app that reaches a lot of women, you have a responsibility to help educate first time moms on the realities of pregnancy loss. As a first time mom going through a healthy pregnancy, I didn’t know that losing a baby after 20 weeks was something that could happen and made it all the more painful when it did. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage and 1 in 160 pregnancies end in stillbirth in the US. These are devastating outcomes and there are many moms using your app who will find themselves facing grief instead of joy at the end of their pregnancy. As a society we need to do a better job of supporting all women going through pregnancy, not only the ones that have a happy ending and I think improving your loss section could be a good first step.

Community feature needs to be improved

I love this app, it’s great I can see what’s going on in my body, if my symptoms are normal, babies development and it keeps my super informed. I do have 1 problem with this app, the community where we can ask questions. Your inbox fills you up with a bunch of questions to answer from other moms and sometimes the app. The problem is there’s no organization. As a first time mom whose due in December I see questions from moms later in their pregnancy and I’m wanting to view their answers to questions so I know what to expect but I can’t view the questions answers unless I answer her question, how is that helping moms? I’m having to answer a question that I don’t know anything about. It should be like a mini social media platform. Where there’s a feed and I can make it to where I can see question from people the same weeks as me, or their be different categories not random question popping up. The inbox should be used for notifications when somebody replies to your comment or somebody else replies on the post. Also the questions from the app should be in its own section of the app where we can click on it and answer it and it only questions that are relevant to how many weeks we are. Right now it’s asking me questions that aren’t even relevant.

Best Option Out There!

I used this app throughout my entire pregnancy, from when I found out I was pregnant at 6 weeks all the way up until the day of my induction at 39 weeks. They kept track of my appointments and ultrasounds, I was even able to add photos of my ultrasound pictures! I was able to update my baby bump picture and loved getting to choose between 4 different themes at which they compared the size of the baby. (Ie fruits, games, etc). You can choose different styles dependent on your preference like grey stripes, polka dots, even dinosaurs! They give you daily updates on your babies development and even telling you what’s happening to your body and what to expect in the upcoming weeks! They provide all kinds of links to verified clinical websites to tell you about your pregnancy and your body and care about your mental and physical health too! I definitely recommend this app. I wish I was having another baby, I’d totally use this again, unfortunately this is my last. After birth Ovia has other apps that you can use your account with to keep track of your health and your babies!

Does not handle pregnancy loss in a good way

I’m leaving this review in the hopes that the developers will take this as feedback and consider making this app more friendly for people who have experienced pregnancy loss. I’ve used this app to keep track of my two pregnancies that both ended with miscarriages. I was devastated the first time and honestly the app made me feel worse. The design flow off the app needs to better consider users who are going through this and maybe give them the option to delete their data or archive it so they can refer back to it but not have their lost pregnancy in their face after reporting the loss. Also the language in the app telling women how big their baby should be and milestones are worded as if it’s 100% true. Instead of saying “your baby is the size of x” I think it should be worded like “your baby might be…” “is possibly” because there is variation in development and it set me up to be disappointed when I went for my ultrasound and the app was so wrong. Using the app after a loss made me annoyed at the certainty of the language and I take it all with a grain of salt. Maybe apps like this aren’t for me. Just please interview people like me and try to make it a better experience for us. Thanks

Like it, but needs improvements on articles

This is one of my favorite pregnancy apps for tracking the baby’s progress. I like how you can also put in doctors appointments, track weight, BP, etc. The daily reminders for prenatal vitamins helps if you’re the sort of person who might forget.

However there are rarely any articles to read other than the weekly updates. I go to Bump or even What to Expect (which I typically don’t like) apps to read through when I’m bored but want to do baby stuff— since they tend to have way more articles. I wish Ovia did too.

My biggest complaint is how much this app emphasizes post partum depression. Don’t get me wrong— it’s a serious issue and it’s good that the app educates you about it. But honestly, more than half the updates towards the end of the pregnancy are about depression, or baby blues, or mental health issues... I’ve read all of the articles and tip prompts several times by this point, and I’m just sick of it. The app is honestly making me feel like I’m guaranteed to have PPD no matter what, so I should be stressed about it every time I open the app for the last two months. I really wish they toned it down a bit, gave you the option to turn it off, or at least had some other sorts of articles to read (but they don’t ☹️).

Love it but....

I have really enjoyed this app a lot! I love seeing different things that my baby is the size of each week. The last 2-3 months though have been very frustrating!! Every single time I first try to open the app, the loading page appears for a good 30-40 seconds and then the app just closes itself. Usually trying a second time works just fine, but now there have been a couple days over the past week where the app will just keep closing itself no matter how many times i try! First of all the loading page lasts way too long... second of all why should i have this app taking up space on my phone if it is just going to choose not to work whenever it feels like it! One of the couple days i had just mentioned, i was at the store and wanted to use the food safety lookup...in Heinz sight i should have just used safari because i knew even if it was working like usual (second try access success) that would still be a full minute or more of waiting for it to just load!!! Safari takes less than a quarter of that time! Please fix this problem as i still love everything else about this app!
