Great little companion app

When I saw this app and th activities I wasn't all that interested, but my 3 year old loves it! He was able to figure bout how to do simple things, but not all the activities, so hopefully he can struggle through figuring out all th activities.

I quickly found what I assume is a small bug: when activities are disabled in the app (which is how I would want to use the app pretty much all the time) the light functions don't work. Interestingly, even the light brick doesn't work when the train is connected to the iOS app and activities are disabled.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your review, we're thrilled to hear he loves it! 😊 You're right, the functions of the app and light will change if Activities are not enabled. We let our team know, just in case it was unplanned. 🔧📱 - Michael, LEGO® Customer Service

A Fantastic Extension for Lego Duplo Play

My son and I love how this extends our Lego building play. We have both the freight and passenger locomotives and enjoy running both of them together at the same time (using separate phones and apps). We have purchased the additional track sets, as well, and have created very elaborate track layouts.

I only have a couple points that would be great to be fixed for the App:

First, as other reviewers have mentioned, the train controls in the app are close to the screen’s edge making it too easy to accidentally swipe and access iOS screens like “Notification Center”. And when you do, it often disrupts the Bluetooth connection — sometimes requiring turning the train off and on again to reconnect. This can be rather frustrating for me, let alone a 3-year-old. A work around to this problem is to turn on the phone’s “Guided Access” to limit any out-of-App functionality.

Second, the train whistle or refilling water sounds used to come directly from the locomotives. Now the only sounds come from the App or are absent altogether. This is disappointing since the control of the actual train whistle and external sounds was a fun part of the overall experience. I hope it’s just a glitch in the latest app update and will be fixed soon.

Overall, this app and the trains have provided so many hours of fun for my 3 year-old and myself. Thank you!

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your detailed review. 🤗 We're happy you two have hours filled with fun with your trains. 🚂✨ We'll make sure to pass on your feedback to our team. As for the sound not working: We'd actually like to have a closer look into it and fix it for you. Please get in touch at LEGO.build/Service-Apple, and we'll get it sorted! 💪 -Gabriela, LEGO® Customer Service

Obviously not tested on children

Virtually every control for the train is right on the edge of the screen, and you slide your finger to operate the controls. Well, guess what? Apple engineers use the exact same ‘swipe from the edge’ motion to switch between apps. Try explaining to a 2 or 3 year old that they can’t actually touch the edge of the phone when trying to grab the speed control knob which is literally .1” away from the edge of the screen. If your child isn’t exactly precise in their finger position they end up starting to switch between apps, and the instant you begin to switch apps, the Bluetooth connection is disconnected and you must wait about 5 seconds for it to reconnect. Incredibly frustrating. Even more so when you realize all the LEGO developers had to do to discover this issue is let one or two children use the app for all of 5 minutes before they realized how big of a design flaw this layout is.

Developer Response ,

Hi there, you mentioned a very good point that affects the user experience for this app. Feedback like yours is highly appreciated and it helps us improve the app as much as possible. Thank you again for your honest and constructive feedback! - Samuel -
