LibreOffice Vanilla is a powerful office productivity application consisting of Writer (word processing), Calc (spreadsheets), Impress (presentations), Draw (vector graphics and flowcharts), Base (databases), and Math (formula editing).

It can also open and edit text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and drawings created in a large number of other applications like OpenOffice, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, Lotus 1-2-3, AutoCAD. Even documents created in historical applications such as MacWrite and ClarisWorks can be opened.

LibreOffice Vanilla is based directly on the LibreOffice source code from The Document Foundation. It is recommended for users who want the convenience of installing from the App Store and getting automatic updates, compared to manually downloading and installing from The Document Foundation.

Note that features implemented in Java are not present, like the HSQLDB embedded database engine.

No SDBC Driver was found for the URL 'sdbc:embedded:hsqldb'

While the other functions of the Suite seem to work fine for me.
The Base Database application seems to be its biggest flaw. The error mentioned in the title rendering the functionality of this part of the application useless. After browsing on the terribly fleshed out Wiki trying to find what might be the reason for my error, then giving up and turning to trusty old google I found that that firstly there is NO support for Macs on LibreOffice. Secondly it seems this error is related to a Java Runtime Environment Error. As in the program requires its presence on the system to do anything database related. Even after installing Java SE Runtine Environment the error still persists. I haven’t come across a successful work around for this as yet.
Admittedly it was too good to be true regardless. After having been taught that there is no such thing as a database program for MacOS then stumbling across this I was excited at the limitless databases I can make for myself, only to see it barely works. If I can find a proper work around I will change this review, but until then 3 stars.

Optimized for M1

I decided to buy this version because it is optimized to run natively on the M1 chip while the free version isn't... And also because I believe it is a good thing to support the LibreOffice project, besides it is way cheaper than MS office and better than google docs IMO.

Optimized for M1

This app runs natively on the new M1, Apple Silicon chip architecture. The functionality and speed are as good or better than the old intel x86_64 version. Thanks to the LibreOffice team for this awesome upgrade.
