I am new to lingoTOK, just subscribed 3 days ago, it looked very interesting ad wise, so I tried it out. It’s quite buggy, Alex will just cut out randomly and then I have to close out the app and redo our whole conversation. Another bug is, it will speak in my example Spanish to me randomly and when I would say hey you’re accidentally speaking Spanish I don’t understand you, I would have to hang up that call too and restart again. Another thing I’d like to add, I think adding a transcript at the end of the voice chat to look over would be super helpful.

I rarely write reviews, but this app is truly terrible. For context, I am proficient in Japanese, and I thought that this app might give me an opportunity to practice speaking. There are clearly different AI models for the different languages. This is fine and makes sense. The problem is that it will begin speaking to you in English (despite the fact that in the settings I set it to only use Japanese) and therefore starts using the English AI model. You cannot make it stop doing this. The result is that it doesn’t pronounce any of the words correctly. For any Spanish speakers reading this, it would do the equivalent of reading tortilla with an English L sound (like tilling a field). Furthermore, it actually doesn’t have conversations with you. It just asks you a question or if you know how to say a sentence and then grades your pronunciation. This means that the app isn’t even useful for beginners, because it’s going to teach you how to say words incorrectly and then reward your bad pronunciation. That’s all it’s “good”for. This isn’t even to mention the fact that it cuts both you and itself off constantly. It will leave its own sentences unfinished. It will cut you off in the middle of words to start talking. I used the app for less than 30 minutes, and I’ve already requested my refund.

After seeing ads of this app all over the place on TikTok, and looking for a conversational language learning assistant I downloaded this app. First thing about it, IT ISNT FREE!! You have to pay at least 12$ for “premium” access which is just a list of a bunch of conversational topics, with no written instructions, writing and reading lessons, and no live captioning/words show up on the screen at all. How are people supposed to know and recognize words and phrases in a language when the app has 1. no written text in the target language at all, 2. poorly prompted AI which can barely recognize pronunciation patterns at all, and 3. The AI-produced pronunciations are very inaccurate and show little to no oversight from native speakers was there during the development of this app. Overall, a very lazy execution, no help from the AI agents at all, and the constant slew of advertising portrays like 90% of the app’s entire functionality. Really thought there would be a lot more thought and planning put into this app, for 12$ at least they could’ve had written text ANYWHERE on the app. Useless and a waste of money.

I paid, and it still only teaches me two to three words or phrases. It kept saying, 'Let’s practice something new tomorrow,' and I kept asking, 'I want to learn more,' but it would say, 'No, I didn't plan to leave at all.' I want to teach you. I asked them to teach me five words or phrases and keep practicing until I remember them and feel confident, and at first, it would say Yeah, let’s learn for 30 more minutes, " and it would forget what it said and kept saying Let’s learn something new tomorrow. Do you know what’s the worst? After 9 minutes, it stopped teaching and went quiet, and I kept waiting until I couldn’t anymore. So, I had no choice but to call off, and I got the same 85 scores at the end of each call. It’s very annoying and frustrating that I have to go through this after paying. It would be an excellent app if these things got fixed.
