Review and Possible Improvements
While playing MathBlaster Space Zapper, I really thought it was well put together with the graphics and sounds. It made it fun to play! I really liked how there were so many different settings so you could essentially have your students do whichever math operation they need the most practice on. However, this app has exactly the same effect as flash cards would, but would interest the students a little bit more.
There were some improvements which I thought could be made to this app. The first one was that I wished there was a way for teachers to check which problems the students got incorrect. This would help the teacher figure out where the student needs more practice and understanding of the certain operations. Another thing that I thought would be helpful is to not have there be such a big interval of time where the correct answer does not show up on the screen. I found that this would be confusing to students if they think that they know the correct answer, but will second guess themselves if the correct answer is not showing up.
Overall, this was a good app; I just felt that I could have gotten the same responses from students by using flash cards where I would have been able to keep an assessment of the incorrect responses.
Difficult for small hands
While the Concept and graphics are terrific, my six year old had trouble with the two-handed aim/fire control on the iPad. It would've been easier for him to aim, have the crosshair lock in place, then shoot - all with the same hand. He got frustrated because he had a hard time holding the screen upright with both hands engaged.
Is there a bug?
Works great and my child loves this, BUT sometimes the first screen is inoperable. I have closed it out completely and sometimes that works, but not right now. If this is fixed I'll rate higher.
