ما يميز اللغة العربية عن غيرها من اللغات هو وجود المفرد، والمثنى، والجمع بأنواعه، فيما تقتصر معظم اللغات على المفرد والجمع دون المثنى.
والجمع في اللغة العربية هو ما دل على أكثر من اثنين أو اثنتين، وهو عميقٌ جداً ومتشعب، ينقسم إلى أنواع هي:
1- جمع المذكّر السالم.
2- جمع المؤنث السالم.
3- جمع التكسير.
4- اسم الجنس الجمعي.
5- سم الجنس الإفرادي.
6- اسم الجمع.
