Now that local syncing works again, this is a very good upgrade

I paid for, but resisted downloading mSecure 5, until it again supported the local network syncing I'd used before in mSecure 4. Whatever the benefits of cloud storage, I was not comfortable handing every spook in the world a copy of all my passwords to decrypt at their leisure by breaking into whatever cloud service mSecure used.

That aside, the app continues to work well and sync easily with all my computers and devices. I particularly like that my fingerprint and face eliminate the need to enter a password when using mSecure on some of my devices.

One thing I DON'T like is that mSecure always offers a godawful complex password, whenever I set up a new account. I'd rather it not do that by default, as much of my online accounts don't need that level of security.

Disappointed with mSecure 5

I waited 2 years to migrate to mSecure 5 because of the initial awful reviews. Apparently I did not wait long enough. For me other than some cosmetic updates which could be looked at as not better just different, it is worse than V3.5 for the way I use it. This is sad and I wish I hadn’t “upgraded”. The V3.5 worked very well for everything I did and I liked the user interface better. There are some new capabilities with V5 but so far I haven’t used them.

I use wifi to sync my 2 macs and iPhone. On V3.5 this was done by using the iPhone as the go between the 2 Macs (not great but functional). V5 is suppose to be able to link the 2 Macs together one as a server the other as a client. While the 2 Macs can see each other they would not sync and mSecure could not solve the problem with in the amount of time I was willing to work on it. I thought that I could just go back to using the iPhone as a go between but this proved to be more clunky than V3.5. Now once I sync to one computer the other will not sync until I make a change to an item on the iPhone (they took out the manual sync which seems really stupid in my opinion). I kick myself for “upgrading”.

Great app, highly recommend

I bought mSecure because it had less functionalities than more popular apps such as 1Passord. When it comes to keeping password secure, I prefer simplicity and stability. This app is extremely stable. I can't remember a crash -- I have used it for over 8 years. It does a few things and does it well.

I went through three international moves with mSecure: it was a life saver. I now have 280 pages of passwords, notes, copies of passports, SSN, software licenses, addresses and phone numbers. mSecure has become my portable safe, literally.

I did not give it 5 stars for a simple reason: there is no simple way to archive old passwords/notes. I hope the developper will consider adding a simple check box that would move the record in an archive folder for future reference (old phone numbers, old addresses, etc.). Some kind of family or business plan allowing sharing of account, with restrictions, would also be great.
