Description

The new nkoda music reader is fully customisable and makes the process of making music an extension of the way you think - by understanding that every musician is different.

-----

Score readers are not often designed by musicians. In fact, they’ve rarely been developed with musicians in mind at all.

We’ve custom-built a new app to pair with the nkoda library so you can consume and toil over as much music as you please, customise your toolboxes to suit your immediate needs and enjoy beautiful renderings of your favourite pieces.

You can read your nkoda library music on our music reader app, or upload any PDF from your device or cloud and we will render it into our .kda format while you work. You can even upload your iPhone and Apple device files, too. The .kda quality is like no other.

What makes our reader different from any other is that you control what you see and how your toolbox is organised. You can annotate while navigating through your scores. Your annotation tools can be kept open while you turn pages, annotating freely as you work. And there is no limit to the number of toolboxes you create. How you work is up to you.

For access to our entire library search for the nkoda library in the app store.

What’s New

Version 1.0.6

The library is world class. This reader is nowhere close

I use large books for this for organ music. Here is what I want - search for “BWV 540” in my library and go right to the page in the right volume - let me create a list of bookmarks I can see and easily navigate to in any music documents - view two landscape pages 2-up, one above the other, in portrait orientation. Organ music is often landscape - start a 2-up view on either odd or even page. On the buxtehude volume 3 all the 2-up views are off by one so they are useless. - give me a scrubber back to scroll through the pages - have the developers test the app with large books not just individual pieces Finally I suggest like Carl Fischer, Presser, and others, you become a ForScore content provider. I’m never giving that up. And if this reader doesn’t get better I’m going to leave nkoda, buy paper, and scan it into ForScore. Your library is incredible but it’s not worth the pain of this reader. This makes me sad. The reader is also not a lot of business value for the amount of work it is. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Focus on what you’re good at - the library and metadata. You have a pile of 1 star reviews because of how much work is left to do here. I am really glad you exist and want to keep using a digital library.

Developer Response ,

Hi there, and thank you very much for your detailed feedback regarding the music reader. We really appreciate it.

We’re a small company working really hard on improving the music reader to be the best in the market, and the upcoming update which includes major improvements will be released in the next month. We’re really proud of it but we’re always looking at what we can improve, so we’re grateful for your detailed feedback (if you have more thoughts please do let us know at contact@nkoda.com!).

In the meantime, I hope these tutorials that we’ve made on the reader will be of use to you, they include how to use the page navigation scrubber and the configuration of page view/fit to width: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ90Ch4kEpExkXusFhSOw0Yr8K8CVaonX

Your feedback from an organist’s perspective is really valuable, thank you. With the Buxtehude volumes that you’ve noticed need fixing, would you be able to let our content team know directly through this content fix form please?: https://forms.gle/tL4NcGjn3RxaMpZC6

In the future we will also be making significant improvements to our search functionality and bookmarking within the pieces. We’ve got a long way to go, but we’re committed to the journey and it’s made possible through feedback like yours. Thank you.

Annotations are not intuitive

This is the best sheet music reader I’ve found to read in landscape mode. My pdfs are too long to fit on my 12.9 iPad in landscape. So I see the top of the page and then have to do something to see the bottom half. In other music readers I have to swipe up. But in nkoda it shows with red marks on both sides of the page where to tap for a page turn, and then it goes to the bottom of the page.
But the annotations and toolbars have me frustrated. It could be that I am new to Apple and iPads. I watched the short videos in the help section button but they show up very small. It’s difficult to see where she is tapping. Long taps are supposed to let you change font size and color, but that menu doesn’t appear for me. I chose the basic piano toolbox set, but maybe I have to make my own to be able to edit it. I wish there was a place to ask a simple question.

Developer Response ,

Hi there,

Thanks for your review. It's great to hear you are enjoying the landscape View functionality, and thank you for your feedback regarding annotations.

Yes, long tapping either on your annotation or on the tool itself within your toolbox will allow you to edit the tool. This can be done for both pre-made and also your own customised toolbox.

Please do get in touch with support@nkoda.com with your questions and one of our team will be able to provide you with a more detailed response. If these edit options do not appear for you, it would be great if you could let our team know your device type and OS version, along with a video (taken from another device) of the issue. We'd love to help you with this!

Useless if you want to actually be able to use the scores

I was prepared to pay for the subscription in order to access the rich catalog of scores, but canceled because Nkoda forces you to use their extremely poor ereader, rather than allowing downloads for import into ForScore (by far the best music app I’ve found for rehearsal and performance) or even my iPad’s native pdf or ebook reader. The Nkoda reader user experience is poor, bordering on completely unusable, and it is not a legitimate replacement for ForScore. I would gladly use a version that allowed personal access to the catalog, but not if I’m trapped in a slow, unresponsive, badly designed app.

Developer Response ,

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback on the music reader, and I'm sorry that you haven't been satisfied with the quality of the app.

Would you consider emailing support@nkoda.com with further details of your experience using the app please? We'll be able to better understand the potential issues being faced through this channel, and make more direct improvements and changes to our product with your feedback. Thank you again for taking the time to leave a review.
