Formatting from Apple Notes not maintained (generic font) and image attachments are kept in separate folders that don't load when markup files are opened in another note program like Bear. When you export as PDF the images are embedded in the files but they are cropped in weird ways based on the length of the lines of text. However if you have tons of notes as I do (over 700) then exporting them in these various formats can at least be a starting point if disaster strikes. So in other words, Note Export works, but could work a LOT better.

It's the only utility of its kind that I could find, that can export as RTF or DOC formats. Quick, easy. Maintains most formatting (don't expect checklists to translate, though. They export as bullet points)My only beef is that I wish it captured the time stamp of the note in the body of the exported note, or had a preference option to retain the original date as the "create date" of the exported documents. I don't use attachments in Notes, so I can't tell you how well that feature works.

User experience is pretty shoddy. If I want to only export one or two folders of notes and have dozens, I need to turn off all of the ones I don't want.This is ridiculous UX design. If I want to export less, I shouldn't have to interact with the UI more. However, once you jump through all the hoops, it works great.Developer should reconsider the whole UI or at the very least, have each folder turned off by default.UPDATE: New update is a step in the right direction. Functionally, it does as described. Could use a better Icon. It looks weird in darkmode. Maybe even just add a white circular background to this one.

When I upgraded an iPad to the latest iOS version, I lost 90% of my notes on iCloud. Newer devices mirrored the loss. An older nonupgradeable iPhone put in airplane mode allowed moving all the iCloud notes to a local folder. Most users would not be so lucky. By exporting all your notes with NoteExport using the RTF format, they can be imported into Notes. Export your notes before upgrading the iOS to have a backup to import if necessary.
