Good, but quality has dropped.
The Olympic Channel is still pretty good: plenty of content such as original shows, sports replays, news, and a really helpful event calendar of international sports. However, the ease of navigation has dropped over the last few updates: a lot of menus have changed from normal-sized lists to scroll through to massive pictures you have to slog through to find what you’re looking for. They also used to have categories for specific Olympics at the main menu, with replays, interviews, and news; now you have to go to the search bar to find it, and all you find is athlete highlights unless you specifically search for replays. It also seems that some original shows have gone missing, though maybe I just need to look harder. That may not sound like a big deal, but newcomers may be left entirely unaware of half the channel’s content because it’s now harder to find.
There’s also the issue of needing a cable or online video service subscription to access the live tv, but that’s likely due to existing business deals more than anything else.
Left a bad taste in my mouth
Regardless of the TV deals meaning you have to have a subscription to the Olympic Channel (nightmare for cable/cord cutters), it has a fair bit of content. I just wish they had more recordings of recent events like the 2019 curling event or the table tennis test for Tokyo 2020.
Well.. it’s alright
I want really badly for the app to work fantastically because it’s a great concept but I think it could be set up to be more user-friendly and easier to navigate. This app does an extremely poor job at loading the videos/episodes (but online it loads very quickly), and then it glitches (pretty consistently). When I try to exit out of full screen of the video, it shows the bottom half of the page on the top half of my screen, and the other half of my phone screen is black. The ideas are there but the execution isn’t very good. The app has some minor glitches and loads very slowly. I’d say focus on the performance issues because I think if the videos load faster and the glitches disappear it would be an incredible alternative to the website, but right now I‘ve decided to use the internet instead of the app because it is a lot quicker and easier. :)
Developer Response ,
Hello- The updated app has a new video player which should alleviate the issue you described. Video content loads a lot faster. If you still experience issues with using the app, please contact us through the App Support link in the App Store. Thanks!
