Impresive for a free app!
This app did an excelt job convering my PDFs to searchable ones with a invisible (selectable) text overlay.
I wish it had a batch mode or Automator integration.
Did exactly what I needed it to do.
I had a scanned file in PDF form that I wanted to convert into searchable text. Simple, right? Apparently not. The document was too large for most online services, and those that would accept the size of the document were painfully slow (to the point I wasn’t even sure they were working). Adobe Acrobat Reader has this feature, except it requires a full subscriptioe and I don’t want to pay for an entire subscription service just for this single document.
So I decided to try the app store. It seemed most other apps that would accomplish this task are paid apps only. At first I overlooked this one because it didn’t have enough ratings to display anything under its icon in the app store. Out of desperation, I guess, I eventually clicked on it for more info. Sounded primising. So I downloaded it and gave it a shot. It worked *beautifully*. I am so glad I came across this app. And it’s FREE. Would recommend. 5/5.
Tested a dozen PDF squeezers against each other — this one wins
For some reason Apple has removed my previous review, but I needed to update it anyway now that this app is no longer free. Last year I tested several PDF squeezers against each other — this one was the clear winner. I squeezed color-scanned PDFs, text-scanned PDFs, downloaded user manuals, etc. PDFify consistently produced the best quality with the smallest file size. I settled on 300dpi/low quality as the best setting (“low quality” is a misnomer — the PDFs look great), but there are 7 other options. The fact that it also had the clearest, friendliest UI is a nice bonus, as is the OCR functionality. The app recently went from free to paid, and while it took me a little while to get over that surprise (a change like that shouldn’t come as a surprise), I ponied up. I don’t begrudge developers of a great app the need to make a living.
