If you insist on calling that a store

Being able to take your PlayStation anywhere with the PlayStation apps is amazing. It’s not just for games, for movies as well (Obviously). On the PlayStation you could buy or rent movies to watch on the PlayStation. Of course this specific app was made to watch the movies on your PlayStation and take them with you anywhere. Just like all the other ps apps. Returning to the store topic however, on ps the store is where you get your movies front . With the app, you should be able to do the same. The store in app is more like a browsing system. I didn’t even know it was possible to purchase movies on the app, (unless im right and you can’t purchase movies in app.) all I’m saying is that the store needs an improvement. I think the best time to fix it is with the release of the PS5. But besides the store, great app, it successfully gives us a way to watch the movies on our PS and watch them on our smart device on the go. 4 stars.

It takes one small mind numbing thing to completely ruin an experience. I’ve been using this app ever since it came out but I’ve gone through a few mobile devices since then. Everything has been great until I’m on my brand new phone and I get an error saying something to the effect “Device limit of 7 reached. Please log out of a device to stream” ...or near that.. I figured I’d do like on Google, find a device list and just hit “log out” or “remove” .... NOOOOPE! After searching thru my own PS4 console and account settings and then the internet and not finding one thing on the subject, I finally contacted support thru chat and they told me I only had 2 options. The first, that I log out of the other devices. Well those devices are already gone, sold or recycled. My only option left: get an email sent to me with a link to click (do this on an actual computer, not mobile device) ...then sign into my account, click “account”, then “media and devices” and select “deactivate all” ... and once I’m done doing that, I need to wait up to 48 hours for a reply. SERIOUSLY?? PlayStation.... Sony... whoever’s reading this, that’s in charge of updates... hop on board and PLEASE just add a “REMOVE DEVICE” option in your PS Video app!

Great app just a few gripes

The latest update thankfully fixed playback issues that have been occurring for MONTHS. Now I can finally watch my purchased shows and movies.

Overall the app is nice, you can watch TV shows and movies you’ve purchased from the PlayStation Store to your mobile device however since the PlayStation store has been updated you can only purchase shows and movies via the PlayStation Video app and on PS4 only since they got rid of that option on desktop. This makes it slightly inconvenient for users who prefer to shop on a computer and not a console or mobile device but they’re still able to purchase new shows and movies to watch.

However my biggest gripe is that the app didn’t receive a user interface overhaul like the PlayStation App and the PS Remote Play app did. A overhaul would’ve been nice and fit more into the aesthetic Sony is going for with the PlayStation 5. It’s not enough to make me not want to use this app or give it a low rating, however it is very disappointing that this didn’t happen as the design language for this app hasn’t aged well at all.

All in all it works fine it’s a perfect streaming app for your mobile device and everything you can think of feature-wise for a streaming app to have this app has it. Minus picture-in-picture support but it’s not a big deal to not have this feature.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
