Protobuf Viewer 4+

Does a good job of decoding and displaying a file created using Google’s Protobuf encoding scheme. If you can’t already tell from the photos, this app allows you to open a file. As you’d might expect, if it is a protobuf-encoded file, it display’s the hierarchy of protobuf messages with fields and subfields. Each field has the field tag (but no field name), scalar type (or ‘embedded-message’ for a field that is another message type), and decoded value. Pretty simple.

A great enhancement would be the ability to load a set of protobuf definition files, and then display the field name along with the tag numbers, as well as enumerations.

While there is nothing fancy about this app, it does its job well. It displays the protobuf data and the field codes. Not much else to do. It is worth noting that PB is a wire-format and does not encode Field names or descriptors. So there is very little for the viewer to do other than decode the binary data and display it. Its up to you to figure our the field names.
