Good app, needs examples though.
This is good for simple text book definitions, but I was hoping it would contain examples for some terms to give the user a better grip on the meaning (i.e. heuristics or cognitive dissonance). Overall a good basic psychology dictionary.
Definitions vague and incomplete
"Addiction: Physical and psychological dependence on a drug."
Yep, that's it. I am not a psychologist, but know this is a misleading and incomplete definition due to an "error of omission," by neglecting to include that addiction is the result of the accumulation of poor choices, one's refusal to accept personal responsibility for both the choices made and the ultimate consequences; creating a vicious circle of self denial, delusion and blame. The definition also doesn't reveal that addiction encompasses more than just drugs. People's accumulations of poor choices, self denial and blame can lead to physical and/or psychological dependence on many other things. Food, sex, violence, enabling other addicts, lying, criminal acts, and many other choices a person makes based on lack of self-discipline and the repetition of the same poor choices.
I liken the definition to defining a car as a four door four wheeled Crown Victoria used to transport one's self to a movie theater.
There are much better resources than the Psych Terms app.
One star is for the app; the second star is for the inclusion of a sheer number of both familiar and unfamiliar psychology-related terms whose definitions can be looked up elsewhere.
As a mental health Professional, I find this app to be informative and accurate when it come to finding a single meaning to help describe a pts progress or disposition. Great Update. When I originally downloaded this app it was very generic and mundane. At this time it has become a very useful tool that I have used in my career in helping me to determine acute criteria.
Very impressed and like the app. I would like to see a search engine that can help find descriptive words based on a definition in the future.
Until then, this has been a fantastic update.
