I purchased this thinking it would be reasonably good for generating audio files that I can listen to later or send to others. It does this, but using only Apple’s voices, which are still pretty robotic. Even if you add better third-party AI voices, such as MS’s Azure, Speech Central will NOT use them when exporting an audio file. Customer support is terrible: I sent an email to support asking about: (1) Is there a way to export audio using the better AI voices, such as those by MS Azure, and (2) Can I control pause length in any way, such as by the standard mark-up available in most similar apps.I didn’t receive a response to my first email, and when I followed up, I received a canned response with the rather dismissive sentence: “we acknowledge that time spent on email responses directly impacts the amount of work dedicated to development and other critical tasks.”For my purposes, this app is largely useless, because of the sub-standard quality of Apple’s voices and the inability to generate files with imported better AI voices. The fact that there is no control over pauses, and mid-sentence punctuation is treated essentially as end of sentence punctuation is also a big issue for me, and makes the generated output unpleasant to listen to.
Everything you said is 100% correct. What you haven’t said is that this app costs $10. With Apple‘s fee that is $8. And yes it is totally fine to refund it from Apple if you don’t like and if it didn’t met your expectations (which are legitimate by themselves but belong to a very marginal group of users, like 1%). On the other hand it is totally unacceptable and overly entitled that you expect personalized human work at that price. That is the answer that you have received and it is 100% correct too. There is the official support policy. I try to fix all bugs within a week. I try to respect all development requests that can benefit the user base. But I cannot explain how the app works and why something is made that way and not the other. It is fine that you may want that. But simply pay for such a service, don’t expect that at the price point where it is technically impossible.
