The Geography is an Endless, Nonlinear Musical Composition, unique to every instance of The Geography, with music and compositional orchestration by Michael.

The Geography and its inner workings, known as AudioLoom, is a collaboration between Michael Berto and Titouan Millet.

Each instance of The Geography is unique to the listener. Included in the application are interactions for calmness, breathing, and focus, as the music reinforces the sense of calm and focus. Measurements of time, locally and in Svalbard, where the Mountains in The Geography are rendered from real-world terrain data.

Experience The Geography at your own pace: There are means for interactive calmness and play, customisation of the scene, as well as algorithms implemented to allow for automatic and ambient use of The Geography.

Endless, always changing: The Geography features an endless and nonlinear musical score. For meditation, relaxation or concentration, the music will constantly weave soundscapes, keeping the musical ambiance sprawlingly and evolving, with no two instances repeating in structure. The Geography can play forever, always re-organising itself, always changing and creating new iterations of ambient sound baths and meditative soundscapes. The Geography is always changing, and always different, while still maintaining a familiarity to those who return session to session.

Calm, Peaceful, Ambient: The sounds and music that The Geography utilises are specifically crafted and composed to maintain an air of ambient and mediative calmness, as well as mindfulness, and meditative focus.

Seed Vault: The Geography uses geographic data from Svalbard, Norway rendered into low poly landscapes, brought to life with soft shaders. Svalbard is home to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, the inspiration for The Geography. Learn more with the information panel during your session with The Geography.

From the developer:

"The Geography represents a long journey and passion to make an endless composition, to make a piece of music that will play forever, and never loop, but rather, weave itself into new forms and soundscapes. I hope you consider this piece a companion, a companion for calm, for contemplation, for meditation, for sleeping and dreaming, as I have while making it. For many years I have been passionate about experimenting with new ways to make and to listen to music, of all kinds, and The Geography represents not only a new way to make music, as a composer, to compose for endless systems, but also a new way to listen to music, as a listener, never having to let your favourite song end, and to remain in a state of familiarity and newness, forever. The Geography has been such a piece for me, and hopefully now will be for you, too."
