Great but lacking some features
I appreciate that Tutanota offers a privacy-respecting e-mail service with a decent app to go along with it. I am also grateful that they are so embracing of FOSS. That said, the app itself could use a refresh to the user-interface. I would love to see a more iOS centric design. Apollo for Reddit is a good example of this (albeit it is a Reddit client and not for e-mail). It could use better animations too. The loading animation (dotted lines) seems quite outdated. Why not have a more modern loading animation? Additionally, unlock with Face ID should certainly be an option. I’m surprised it’s not. The dark mode could use improvement too. I would like to see a true black dark mode, the way Apple implements it across iOS. Lastly, everything could use a speed boost. I suspect the app requires further optimizations to achieve this.

Thanks for your feedback. Touch/pin unlock is planned for the coming months, we're also thinking about a black theme, stay tuned!
Definitely needs improvements
I normally don’t write reviews but i felt that it was time to share my voice on Tutanota. First of all, I do love the fact that it’s a secure email however there are some flaws. First, I’d like to point out that when I get email on Tutanota, the app shows a number 1 on my iPhone regardless if I have 1 email or 20. I would love to see this issue get fixed.
Secondly, when you are on the Tutanota app, if you slide an email to the left, it should allow you to delete it. Sometimes when I slide emails that I no longer want to the left, it “bounces” back and I have to try again until the email deletes. This is rather annoying.
Thirdly, there is no option to “search your email”. For better organizing and storage, it would be truly helpful to search your messages by sender, message phrases, etc, especially when you are paying Tutanota to have an entire gigabyte of email, which to some people is a lot of mail.
Fourthly, in the spam folder, i have to move some emails to the inbox. Tutanota does not give me an option that I have seen to declare them as a “safe email” or “not spam”.
I really like having a secure email and I do like Tutanota. I just know that they could seriously improve their service, get rid of the bugs and add some good features to make things easier on their customers and users. That is why I gave Tutanota 3 stars.

Thanks for your feedback. #1 is planned for the coming months, #2 thanks for the notice, we'll see how we can improve this! #3 please check again, search is already possible since the last update, #4 you can whitelist addresses/domains: https://tutanota.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/780147-how-can-i-configure-spam-detection-rules-configur
Great. Just needs a few more features?
I love the app. I even paid for the extra storage and features for the email all together. The best thing about it is privacy. Im glad there’s a company out there that respects someone’s privacy and strives to maintain that policy. The only downsides are just the way the settings are formatted in the app. It’s different from others so takes some getting used to. Also, im not sure if i just havent found it, but is there a way to preview emails in the lock screen? All i see is that I got an email so i have to unlock my phone and go into the app just to see who the email is from. Otherwise, great app, great company.

Thanks for your feedback. Such a preview is not possible yet, as Apple would be able to see them as well, which we must prevent. We're looking into ways to improve this, thanks for your patience!
