I had some old Word Perfect files not examined in years. I converted from Windows to Mac a year ago, and at some point the file type wpd was eliminated. All I had to do was to add the .wpd file type (or is it an extension?), double click, and the wpd converter opened the file. I chose to convert to pdf, copy into a Word doc. Have done no editing yet, and it looks like no real Word formatting, just like a print image, but at least we have something we can use.

I was using WordPerfect back in the 1980s. At the time it was to wordprocessor of choice for IBM PCs with and without Windows. Recently I went to retrieve some of those old WPD files on my iMac, but they wouldn’t open in OpenOffice. I found this App at the Apple App Store and downloaded it. The App easily opened my old WPD files so I could read them. Then I was able to copy and paste the document contents into an OpenOffice wordprocessor text file and save the file in one of the many available file formats. Heartfelt thanks to those who wrote this App.

This can open as an app and then open files, or you can right click on a file and "open with." It remembers the last folder you saved in not the one where you opened the file, so when you go to save a copy, note where you are saving it. It will recognize files ending in WPD, but back in the day, the terminal endings were not standardized; backt then, my files ended in dates since they were all Wordperfect files. You have to tell the app to open those with non standard terminal endings. Great app.

I was having issues opening 3 documents that were sent to me in the wpd format. After struggling trying to convert the file myself, I downloaded the first free wpd converter app I found, which happened to be this one. There isn't much to the app itself, but it did it's job! All you need to do is drag the file over the app icon and boom it opens your file seemlessly. So simple and effective! Thank you developers for making my life easier!
